Okay, how the fuck am I supposed to review releases that did well? This is a good release. What more needs to be said?

OP/ED

This is a bit awkward. How about “If someone else sees me like this, then I…”

Inconsistency in capitalizing when people stutter.

Inconsistency of comma usage in such short phrases.

If you look closely, there are two spaces between “to” and “the” in the first picture and two spaces between “it’s” and “a” in the second picture.

Yes, you know I’m stretching when I’m looking so hard at the subs that I notice double spaces.
Fuck it, you can probably tell from this review that I really liked the subs. The editing’s spot-on. It’s fucking near-perfect. Crunchyroll did an A-class job of translating this shit and U-C did an A-class job editing this.

Overall grade: A

Watch their Nichijou release.

This makes me curious, though. What exactly do you want me to say when I see subs that get A’s/A-‘s? Do you want me to pick out a line at random and say “OMG look at this they used the period perfectly and they managed make a sentence that actually makes sense!”? I’m legitimately confused here. I don’t want to waste your time, and I’d like to make my posts a bit more informative than “good job, bad job”. Let me know, kthx.

  1. Well, I’m just going to go watch their release now, so this post kind of served it’s purpose for me. That being said, if you included a bunch of random compliments, I would probably read those too. Also, I have a feeling that some of the editors who read these things could end up learning some valuable information if you pointed out how the lines that should have been particularly difficult to edit were handled. But, like I said, I don’t really care either way.

  2. I honestly think you need say nothing more than “good job, guys, here’s a gold star”. If you’re that concerned about wasting your readers’ time, consolidate a bunch of As and A minuses and even Bs into maybe one post a day with no screenshots (or maybe one per show) or nitpicking.

I know that as a leecher I’d mainly want to know which fansubs to avoid, not what the B students could have done better.

  3. For releases that are (nearly) error-free go more in-depth: lines that could be misunderstood, consistency, speech patterns, text flow…
It can never hurt to see things from a different point of view. ;)

  4. Ok, wayyyy late to the party here. Been watching too many other anime but I’m really enjoying Nichijou so far. I have to say that comparing ep 01 of Doki and UW-Commie, the choice (for me) was clear. I normally have to pass on about 70% of what Doki does themselves. (Their edits and re-releases are pretty nice sometimes, though.) What I’d really like to know is if the subs for Nichijou ep 04 posted to watchanimeon.com are untouched CR or someone else. UW-Commie localized Darumasan ga Koronda as Red Light, Green Light which I found a little annoying. Some people might call me a weeaboo, but I don’t think that asking for literal translations when it offers insight into cultural comparisons is really too much to ask. Thoughts?

    • Why? Commie fucks up sometimes and though I didn’t really get into it in this review, they didn’t really localize any of the jokes, leading to a fucking awkward release. I can only assume this is because they didn’t have a TLC, so they just did their regular “spellcheck and release” process.
