Good script hampered by unedited karaoke.

File size: 277 MB (HQ MKV), 151 MB (LQ MKV)

Japanesiness: No honorifics. Western name order. Mr. Producer. Mr. Cameraman. etc. It works pretty well.

Karaoke. OP/ED/Insert. Lots of errors in these.

Pic 1: Entertaiment!

Pic 2: i can be very moody!

Pic 3: Mom’s speeches, dad’s snoring, and they talk about my future.

Typesetting.

Auditions, you mean.

No error here. I just wanted to give y’all a little fanservice of the best girl in the show.

Methinks you mean “whether it be tempura and rice or steak”

We’re going to get you all mountains of work!

Watchability: Quite watchable. Just pretend the karaoke has no English subs.

Overall grade: B+

The one thing I absolutely loved about this release is about how well-localized the script was. It was jam-packed with idioms and lines that just made sense. They did have some annoying problems with accents and comma splices, but there are apparently only a handful of editors left that can do those right, so I’m gonna stop bitching about it.

This is one of those “do as I say, not as I do” moments where I recommend one group (Chibiki) over another (Nuke), even though I’ll actually be continuing the series with the group that had worse English/karaoke. So yeah, go with Chibiki on this release. Better karaoke/English AND dual scripts so you can choose whether or not you want honorifics or none is an impressive package.

  1. are you seriously going to knock down a release that you think is great because their karaoke has a couple of problems?

this and actually favoring chihiro/doki… dunno about you anymore.

    • I’m going to give it a fair score based on what it offers as a whole. Poor karaoke does factor into the review to a degree.

I don’t much care about karaoke, and I liked the idiom overdosage, which is why I prefer Nuke’s release. Just a personal preference. But I think that for most people, Chibiki offers a better package than Nuke does.

As for Doki/Chihiro, assuming you’re referring to other releases and don’t actually believe Chibiki is a joint between the two…

This site doesn’t run off bullshit concepts like “Group A” is best because they’re Group A. If you want to circlejerk in ignorance, that’s fine. There are tons of sites where you can bash subs you haven’t even watched. anidb, bakabt, myanimelist, etc. all provide great avenues for morons to do this.

What I’m trying to do here is to take a mostly-objective look at the overall quality of a release (with the notable exception of translation accuracy, for I do not speak Japanese) regardless of which group was in charge of it (there are only a few exceptions to this rule and they mostly qualify as trollsubs).

Like it or not, groups DO vary in quality and staff changes all the time. Not to jerk myself off here, but my results are pretty goddamn accurate.

If you think I’m wrong, I’d love for you to find mistakes in Chihiro’s Kamisama release. Hell, I’ll make you an account and let you make a post about it. But you’re not gonna find enough to make them worse than EveTaku/UTW’s releases. That’s just how it is. But if you want, feel free to try. The offer’s open.
