Wow, this anime is a lot better when you can actually understand what’s going on. It’s almost as if this group didn’t use guesslations. What a novel fucking concept. No really, Hadena’s was nonsensical garbage.

Release Format: MKV (8-bit, 353 MB), AVI (176 MB)

Japanesiness: Honorifics. Japanese name order. Nyan used.

Karaoke.

Ending. I found it good, but a bit too bouncy with the effects.

The Opening didn’t air this episode.

Typesetting.

I don’t know about the locations/size of the words, but at least they’re there.

Overall, the typesetting was pretty decent.

Script.

I like that you understand the need for italics, but you put them on the wrong word. “is” should be italicized instead of “really”.

This is a mouthful and it really doesn’t need to be this bad.

“Tools which have been repeatedly cursed by people will eventually take on human forms.”

Though I would question the translator if “tools” is the right word to use here.

Eh, you don’t really remove a curse off someone. You remove it from them.

“until we can completely remove that curse from you.”

“It’s amusing how all that food only ends up in your breasts.”

Err. you mean “glutton”?

“eastbound”, you mean.

Drop the ‘ve part. It makes the sentence read terrible because it doesn’t match the right tense.

What’s the point of “with” here? Drop it like child support, son.

Watchability: Watchable.

Overall grade: B

Some silly editing mistakes drag this down, but compared to Hadena, this is defintitely the way to go. I think UTW also released this anime, so I can’t make a recommendation on them yet, but I’ll get on that soon enough.

  1. Even UTW and Hatsyuki won’t make this anime any good. UTW seems to have some kind of fetish for shit series (Hidan no Aria, Gosick, B Gata H Kei).

“Drop the ‘ve part. It makes the sentence read terrible because it doesn’t match the right tense.” <- Wouldn't dropping 'earlier' be better? It'd sound better that way imo (I'm no native speaker so I'm probably wrong, just a quick thought).

    • No, because ‘ve makes it redundant. What’s the difference between

      I’ve already told you
      and
      I already told you

      ?

Nothing. So you don’t need it there, especially because it only confuses things when more tenses get involved.

“I already told you guys earlier that I’m fine!” is a perfectly good sentence.

        • Oh, that’s a fair point. Forgive my tired eyes. In that case, I’d rather drop the “already” than the “earlier”. Because “told” is in the past tense, “already” adds no value to the sentence while “earlier” provides information on what time it occurred.

          • You really like “I’ve”, don’t you? :P

“I already told you guys that I’m fine!”
“I’ve already told you guys that I’m fine!”

Again, the ‘ve adds nothing to the sentence. Now, you can use ‘ve in a similar situation, such as…

“I’ve told you guys time and time again that I’m fine!”

but I’m not seeing the value of its inclusion in the sentence as-is.

    • If you are talking about translation errors, UTW also fits into that category. Just because they have an overly edited script that is grammatically sound does NOT mean the translation is correct. But than again I’m just assuming you are one of those people that orgasm every time they hear UTW.

      • Oh God, how stupid and ignorant can some people be? At least inform yourself a little before throwing the first shit-like opinion that pops up in your head.

      • Whoa, geez, people really piled up on you. Let me explain this without the hero worship.

8th is a translator for GotWoot, gg, Saizen (but when was the last time they did anything?), and UTW.

I consider his Subtitle Reviews to be a useful companion to Whiners and I quite value 8th’s many contributions to the site. He often speaks about Translation Accuracy and I trust his judgment and professional opinions on it.

You can usually take his posts as an addendum to the review. But much like everything you read, take it with a grain of salt. Realize that he’s a human being with biases, much like anyone.

If you want someone to speak at-length with about translations… he’s great for that (we also have quite a few other sexy translators that appear in the comments section here). If you want to demonstrate why you don’t like UTW’s translations, I’m sure he’d be happy to go point-by-point with you as to whether they’re accurate or not. (Do note that Translation Accuracy is only one part of a larger picture, but if you want to talk about that, have at it.)

  2. ”I see. It really(italics) is good this way”

I don’t like to use italics, but in this case is not wrong. It all depends on what are you are trying to say, though.

You can put really,is,good, this in italics and, in this case, the meaning won’t be lost. Saying IS have to be the word on italics is completely wrong.

“Tools which have been repeatedly cursed by people will eventually take on human forms.”

Bad use of which. Use that.

”Remove the curse” Lift the curse sounds even better.

    • It’s not wrong in a vacuum. But I sincerely doubt the line’s meaning is correct with that placement of the italics. Why? Because the most natural follow-up is “It really *is* good this way.” 99% of the time, that will be the second line.

I agree with you on the other two.

    • If you’re just dying to put the emphasis on “really” then you really (HAR!) need to restructure the sentence: “It’s *really* good this way!”
