Another Another release.

Release format: MKV (10-bit, 267 MB)

Japanesiness: No honorifics. Japanese name order.

Group website: http://whynot.doesntexist.com/ (as of this post, they have tits on their front page, which I consider worthy of viewing)

8thsin’s translation critique: http://8ths.in/winter-2011-anime-subtitle-comparison/#Another

Ji-hi’s screenshot comparisons: http://www.ji-hi.net/wi11/another/

Karaoke.

Opening. Kinda blah and uninspiring.

Ending. This was fine.

Typesetting.

The typesetting was mostly readable, but the “Who is dead” sign and the “Misaki Mei” one kinda sucked.

Script.

As my friend Capitán Filiberto says, “Estos subtítulos son perfectos… más ó menos.” But I don’t speak Argentinian, so he may as well just be telling me what the newest flavor of Taco Bell burrito is going to be.

Forgetting Filiberto for a second, these subs are pretty damn good. Didn’t feel the need to bitch about anything in the script.

Luckily, Commentor Xythar had something to bitch about, so I’m gonna include it in the review. Groups can argue their way into a better grade, so I don’t see why groups can’t argue others into a worse grade. ~_~

The last line should be something along the lines of “One? Who?”

Watchability: Definitely watchable.

Overall grade: A-

I still think I’d rather watch Underwater for this show, just because I like to dance like a ballerina to my karaoke and I trust their typesetting more. But WhyNot deserves recognition for their release here too. Good job.

  1. Okay I looked at it

    >It’s when…
    >the number of students in the class increases by one.

    >Increases? Who?

Good job WhyNot, A rank script right here

      • You think the line “Increases? Who?” is proper, sensible English?

The whole conversation sounds ridiculous when literally translated anyway because it makes it sound like the “phenomenon” happens the moment anyone new joins the class, when in fact it happens when a new student mysteriously appears overnight but nobody knows who it is because all records/memories get altered accordingly. It’s a pretty clear distinction to make because otherwise it just sounds like it’s all his fault despite the latest round of deaths beginning before he even transferred in.

        • Ah, you were talking about the line afterward. I can see your complaint with it. I’m thinking they should have gone with “One? Who?” there. You’re right. I guess I didn’t pay it much mind because I’m a fucking failure. Review updated.

Edit: I disagree that asking “who” the one is inspires confusion. They explain it quite clearly in the episode.

  2. From what I’ve seen, WhyNot uses barely (and I _mean_ barely) edited CR subs. This review is like saying, “Hey, CR did a pretty good job this episode.” So really, if you don’t like waiting, I recommend getting HS or watching the stream on CR. Otherwise, you should just use a random number generator to pick the group you want to watch.

    • Good grief. CR’s subs are never bad script-wise. If you’re editing their script more than is necessary, you’re doing it wrong. What the fuck do you want me to do? Modify every fucking line?

      • That’s pretty much what I do :v

I went into this thinking I’d probably barely end up changing the script at all – but when you actually look closely, there’s always plenty of room for improvement.

I think the main point here is – you guys released Another two days after Commie and Underwater with a basically unedited CR script and below-average typesetting. In a series this oversubbed, why should people wait for you?

      • I’m sure I could watch the CR/HS and come back with at least 30 lines that need to be changed beyond simple grammar and punctuation (but I won’t because that’s your job). With the way CR works, no matter how good a translator is, he will have lines that no native English speaker would actually say. Professional translators are light-years ahead of current fan translators, but they still leave in those kinds of lines.

Only Funi is good enough to require very light editing.
