Visual Review

Karaoke.

K-timed English for a non-syllable-matched translation with a font that doesn’t fit at all. This is terrible karaoke, Hatsuyuki. What the fuck are you doing?

Rating: Bad.

Great font positioning choices. Well, at least you managed to choose a decent color this time.

Rating: Okay.

Typesetting.

Oh wow. Expert translation there, Hatsuyuki.

Hardsubbed because that’s how Hatsuyuki rolls.

Typesetting is so hard.

Other.

I hate this font. Never ever make this shit transparent. Look at that fucking “j”. Just fucking look at it.

Fuck this fucking font. My body wants to cleanse itself of this shit so badly. Hatsu, you’re gonna make me bulimic.

Well done. Truly, great job.

Static, 10-second credit screen. Picture’s good enough that I can’t really hate.

Script Quality

Karaoke.

“repeating reality”? What the hell does that mean?

I think you meant “resonate”.

Main Script.

Okay, this is fine. But coming up…

The fuck are you doing, Hatsuyuki? This is part of the same fucking thought, so there should be a question mark here.

No. What the fuck?

You can’t have a thought that goes like “Are you ____?” and end it with “Correct?” Try it with a complete thought in one sentence to see why.

“Are you James, correct?”

This is fucking terrible, bottom-tier editing.

Why is there a comma here? Read your fucking sentences, Hatsuyuki. This sounds like shit.

You mean “deadly game”?

These two sentences do not fit together. Don’t start one line with “However” and the next with “But”.

“Diabel, you were a beta tester.”

“But you never abandoned the other players.”

See? That’s a complete thought. But when you jerk them apart with the way you edited it, the one thought that should be complete is cut into two different parts that don’t make sense when read back to back.

Get your fucking tenses right.

“You guys are way better than they were.”

Watchability: Watchable.

Overall grade: C+

Altogether a mediocre release. But even if their subs were error free, I’m not sure I could recommend them. Fuck transparent fonts.

          • That means nothing. To prove my point, I submit this to you: http://i.minus.com/ibwlHaWyspYJvu.png

If I can get rid of that kanji, which is much more difficult, it is easy to get rid of that typo. The only issue would be finding a font that’s similar, of which I would spend too much time trying to show.

Also, I could have spent more time on it so that the very light-gray “+” isn’t covered up (on the box that I drew), but it’s

            1) late
            2) I just got done with work
            3) effort

            • Actually, I’m gonna just go ahead and say I had a bit more time and got rid of the mess. Now I just need someone to give me a font that’s similar =P

I also fixed the clipping with ‘create’.

Note: This is UTWoots’ release, not Hatsuyuki’s, but same general rule applies. The other ‘Disolve’ that appears before this and has 3 different alpha-blended colors, you’d just need 3 different boxes. It’d be difficult, but doable.

    • well hatsuyuki have this anime setting in US while they are translating it from Japan. So, yeah.. 2 Dec should be 3 in Japan. lol

        • I think they’re trying to argue that it was a translation of time zones that resulted in the error– a very flawed assessment. Apart from how retarded it would be to translate time zones, Japan is UTC+9, whereas the US is UTC-9 to -4 on the mainland, meaning if it were translated it would be December the first, if anything.

  1. “Death game” is exactly what he said, and it’s a term widely used within the story to describe the game. Maybe capitalizing it or using some other form of emphasis to point out to the viewer that “Hey, this term is important” would make more sense. Although, on second thought, making it stand out more might just make it seem even weirder.

Eh, “death game” or “deadly game”, I’d take either one. And both of them are better than just leaving it as “game”. Yeah, great work there, UTWoots.

  2. I love how both ‘resonant’ and the Japanese word it was translated from (‘響てく’ sic!) have spelling mistakes.

  3. Is it just me or is ‘I like to consider my “job” as Knight’ really awkward phrasing? Sounds more like he likes to ponder his role as knight, rather than that he considers his job to be a knight. Or something along those lines.

  4. Nobody thinks it’s strange that MC had a LASERcoat and LASERbraces in his inventory, even though it’s the beginning area of the game?
