Episode details.

Release format: MKV (183 MB, 10-bit), MKV (211 MB, 8-bit), AVI (192 MB)

Japanesiness: Yes.

English style: American English.

Encoding details: http://pastebin.com/xdchrWn9

Speed: Slow (>48 hours)

Note: They fucked up the chapters in this release.

Note 2: The subs here are really literal (I don’t like the phrase, but it seems to be adopted by everyone, so we’ll go with it). And that’s not exactly a translation style I enjoy while watching my subs. But it’s not something I’m going to penalize them for, beyond the translations that simply don’t make sense in English and those that make the experience unenjoyable, that is.

Just a fair warning to those of you who are liable to freak out over these things.

Visual Review

Karaoke.

Opening. I honestly have no idea why they went with purple here. It looks okay some of the time, but for the times it doesn’t, there’s no thematic reason to forgive them for it. Should’ve been green to match the main character.

Rating: Okay.

Ending. For KFX groups, this is the equivalent of throwing a white text with a serif font on the screen and acting like that’s good enough. There should be more put into these things than just ticking off the checkboxes and calling it good.

Rating: Okay.

Typesetting.

Very typesetting heavy show, as you can see. I was pretty impressed by the logo, although group logos don’t factor into my scores (for obvious reasons).

The changing sign was not handled the best, though. Perhaps the font should have been slightly smaller to avoid running into the Japanese characters.

Script Review

Main Script.

[Hatsuyuki]_Amnesia_-_03_[10bit][1280x720][194AE2E5].mkv_snapshot_06.58_[2013.02.03_19.47.05]

[Hatsuyuki]_Amnesia_-_03_[10bit][1280x720][194AE2E5].mkv_snapshot_07.02_[2013.02.03_19.47.14]

I’ve watched this part of the scene a couple times and I still can’t figure out what “what it was or how to explain it” is referring to.

It’s pretty much a non-translation here, because nothing’s being said. They’re just words on the screen that serve no purpose. Maybe there’s some logic behind it, but this needs a serious rephrase. I’d offer an improvement, but again, can’t tell what the line is supposed to mean.

[Hatsuyuki]_Amnesia_-_03_[10bit][1280x720][194AE2E5].mkv_snapshot_11.20_[2013.02.03_20.00.07]

Gonna want to change run to ran. I don’t like explaining things with terms like “subjunctive” or “past-present predicate” or any of that, so lemme just cut the excess from the line and you can see where the issue lies.

If you run into trouble at work, you’d need to rely on someone {Wrong}

If you ran into trouble at work, you’d need to rely on someone {Right}

If you run into trouble at work, you’ll need to rely on someone {Right}

So which of those two is the best choice? Just add the other parts of the line in and you’ll see (take note of the “thought” and “told” and you can match it with the “you’d” rather than the “you’ll”).

Fix’d: “I thought that if you ran into trouble at work, you’d need to rely on someone, so I told him.”

[Hatsuyuki]_Amnesia_-_03_[10bit][1280x720][194AE2E5].mkv_snapshot_11.46_[2013.02.03_20.00.43]

Not “somehow”. Go with “For some reason”.

“For some reason, it seems like these two haven’t changed.”

I know you think “nanka” always means “somehow”, but when it’s fucking with the English of a line, somehow something needs to give.

[Hatsuyuki]_Amnesia_-_03_[10bit][1280x720][194AE2E5].mkv_snapshot_15.30_[2013.02.03_20.05.40]

Uhh, no. She’s returning to work.

“So you start working again today, Senpai?”

[Hatsuyuki]_Amnesia_-_03_[10bit][1280x720][194AE2E5].mkv_snapshot_16.40_[2013.02.03_20.16.14]

Nice tip: For situations like these, where you don’t know whether to use “I” or “me”, you can just cover up all the rest and see what happens.

Shin went on a trip to Shinano, right? {Good}

You went on a trip to Shinano, right? {Good}

Me went on a trip to Shinano, right? {Bzzt!}

I went on a trip to Shinano, right? {Okay}

This doesn’t really help much if you don’t have an intrinsic grasp of the English language, but if you’re reading this site, you likely have the basics down.

[Hatsuyuki]_Amnesia_-_03_[10bit][1280x720][194AE2E5].mkv_snapshot_19.59_[2013.02.03_20.22.37]

What the hell went wrong in that last line?

“Right now, it feels like that might be the case.”

Not too shabs. Though I don’t see why it should take more than a week to release this.

(Or maybe Hatsuyuki’s like me and just can’t stand subbing fujoshit, so they delay and delay, hoping for an angel to come down and smite the creators of the show so they no longer have to suffer through dealing with this shit.)
