Script Review

Main Script.

[HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_00.44_[2013.06.21_16.12.25]

Someone got paid to write this line.

[HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_06.13_[2013.06.21_22.26.14]

[HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_06.24_[2013.06.21_22.25.29]

This should be more descriptive. Based on Asenshi’s in-script TL Notes, the point of this section is that the members of Gossip are talking about just how much they believe in the Authors/Queen of Hair stories they’ve heard.

Brown-haired guy’s trying to say that “The Goods are more credible a story than the Queen of Hair.” Or, in fewer words, “The Goods have more truth to them than the Queen.” Though honestly, you’d probably want the entire section to be rewritten to get the idea across.

[HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_11.08_[2013.06.21_17.16.24] [HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_11.11_[2013.06.21_17.16.31] [HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_11.12_[2013.06.21_17.16.36] [HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_11.15_[2013.06.21_17.16.43]

The shit? “Stronger”? Yeah, I don’t feel like we’re getting the full story from this “translation”.

[HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_12.18_[2013.06.21_17.19.03] [HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_12.21_[2013.06.21_17.19.09]

this -> that

Please, people. It’s not that difficult to understand when to use “this” and “that”.

[HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_12.35_[2013.06.21_17.19.31]

Drop the “a” and you’ll be fine.

For a more effective riposte, you’d want to have Kiri’s lines be

What of your sins?

And your judgment?

Sense vs. Non

I wouldn’t really call CR’s script brilliant here, but it does make sense, and it portrays things clearly and with more effective writing. Here, have a face-off with Asenshi’s script to see what I’m talking about. (I’d throw in the other groups’ lines here, but I really don’t care enough to download their versions for a show as shitty as this.)

[HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_09.37_[2013.06.21_20.56.03] [HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_09.40_[2013.06.21_20.56.10]

Asenshi:

The Queen is a scapegoat.
The Goods’ Author is a wolf who eats it.

CR’s version makes far more sense because the point of the series is that all the Authors are trying to kill the Queen. Asenshi’s version makes it seem like Rule Book is only talking about Kiri.

[HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_10.39_[2013.06.21_20.57.52]

CR:

I thought you’d be too afraid to come.
>We had a choice?
You look very fetching, Your Majesty.
Enjoying the dress?
You make quite the merry pair.

Asenshi:

I thought you’d get scared and run away for sure.
>As if I could turn down a chance like this.
You’re looking great as well, Queen.
Nonchalantly making merry in your dress.
Pretty carefree.

Asenshi’s second line there is more feisty than CR’s, but I don’t know if it makes all that much sense. Kiri didn’t know he was gonna be fighting Rule Book, and I don’t believe he wanted to. CR’s line states that he wasn’t exactly psyched about going to the party but felt like he had to… which is the sense I got from Anime-Koi and Mezashite’s 07 releases.

The last two lines of each also contrast. Asenshi just repeated the same thought (“nonchalantly making merry” and “pretty carefree”) whereas CR brought in two different thoughts.

[HorribleSubs] Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge - 08 [720p].mkv_snapshot_17.58_[2013.06.21_21.05.37]

CR:

Enjoy your miserable death,
sinful abomination!
After witnessing your death,
I will be suffused with righteous pride!

Asenshi:

Die willingly and miserably,
you abominable criminal!
After witnessing your death,
I will be able to feel great pride throughout my body.

I’m comparing the lines here more to point out CR’s word choice in the final line. I felt CR rocked some much better language overall than the other groups did, allowing for a better viewer experience. I should also note that whenever I got confused while watching a group’s release of this show, I turned to Crunchyroll, because their lines tended to make sense. That kind of consistency is desirable.

Well, I think you get the picture, and there’s no real reason to slag on Asenshi alone, so I think we’ll call this section good. Onto better shows~

If you don’t give a shit about visuals or speed, Crunchyroll’s script is the way to go for this show. Otherwise, Mezashite is your best choice.

  1. Also, just for kicks, or in case you wanted to add the other groups in a spoiler tag or something, here’s Anime-Koi:

    #1:
I was sure you would get cold feet and turn tail.
    >You mean I actually had a choice to refuse your invitation?
You look great too, my Queen.
Happily wearing your dress and recklessly coming here.
Both of you are so careless!

    #2:
    Gladly accept your miserable death,
    hideous criminal! {he says ‘die with “kokotoyoku” (comfort) & “mijimeni” (disgrace)’ — two opposite words.}
When I witness your death with my own eyes,
my body will be able to bask in this magnificent glory!

I don’t have access to Mezashite at the moment, and it seems unlikely I’ll be DLing MORE of this dreck.

There they host the subs of every soft-subbed release, so you just download those instead of the whole encode (in case you just want to judge the lines and not the actual video or timing).
It’s going to save you a hell lot of bandwith, I guess.
