These subs suck, but at least I could understand the plot of the show with them. So even though they’re getting an F, think of it as better than Hadena’s F.

Visual Review

Karaoke.

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_01.49_[2013.09.14_10.17.40] [DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_01.58_[2013.09.14_10.17.55]

Opening. Hearts show up when the lines come in and then you get a rather pink karaoke for the rest of it. I liked it; fit the theme very nicely.

Rating: Good.

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_22.40_[2013.09.14_11.22.32] [DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_23.40_[2013.09.14_11.23.43]

Ending. The karaoke complemented the credits all nice and good-like. Enjoyable.

Rating: Good.

The typesetting ain’t terrible, but they do have a questionable fondness for throwing away the Japanese signs.

Script Review

Karaoke.

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_01.58_[2013.09.14_10.17.55] [DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_02.00_[2013.09.14_10.23.40]

This is not a sentence. I refuse to accept it.

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_23.40_[2013.09.14_11.23.43][DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_22.40_[2013.09.14_11.22.32][DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_23.28_[2013.09.14_11.23.24]

There are a lot are a lot of issues with needless with needless repetition in the ED.

Main Script.

A lot of DDY’s issues could be solved if their editor just learned a few key things (for the sake of my sanity, even though most of these quarantined lines had other things wrong with them, I just shoved them in these issue ghettoes to save some space):

Commas tend to come before “but” in these contexts.

Spoiler:

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_17.51_[2013.09.14_11.15.46]

Part 1
Part 1

Part 2 (yes this is supposed to be one full sentence)
Part 2 (yes this is supposed to be one full sentence, and no, this line isn’t supposed to be capitalized)

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_20.25_[2013.09.14_11.18.54]

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_23.59_[2013.09.14_11.24.17]

Ah, ah. No excuses, please.

Stock phrases aren’t good.

Spoiler:
[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_00.52_[2013.09.14_10.16.05] [DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_04.05_[2013.09.14_10.53.08] [DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_04.09_[2013.09.14_10.53.22]

May as well just write them in Japanese at this point.

Commas are quite useful.

Spoiler:
[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_00.02_[2013.09.14_10.00.12]

Since then,

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_12.24_[2013.09.14_11.08.34]

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_19.20_[2013.09.14_11.17.28]

Oh no,

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_20.11_[2013.09.14_11.18.29]

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_22.22_[2013.09.14_11.22.01]

That being said,

If these lines caused you physical pain… congrats, I can confirm you’re alive and working as intended.

Question marks exist.

Here, DDY. You can borrow a few: ????????????????????

Enjoy.

Apostrophes actually have rules governing their use (a surprise to many a DDY staffer, I’m sure).

Stop trying to impress me with your knowledge of Japanese. It’s not going to get you in my pants; I’m not even Asian, let alone Nipponian.

Don’t be dumb.

Spoiler:
[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_00.26_[2013.09.14_10.14.57]

Word duplication.

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_00.58_[2013.09.14_10.16.20]

Spelling mistake. (Aegisub has a spellcheck function, you retards. There’s no excuse for this.)

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_01.04_[2013.09.14_10.16.37]

Why is “The” capitalized here?

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_03.18_[2013.09.14_10.52.10]

It would be “bully, Senpai!” if you wanted to keep your wapanese subs at least approximating English grammar.

Part 2
The great thing is that even if their “armpit” translation is accurate, the sentence still qualifies for a late-term abortion.

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_00.42_[2013.09.14_10.15.30]

I don’t even know what this means. What, is money going to ambush me in the middle of the night or something?

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_09.02_[2013.09.14_11.02.24]

destructive? What the fuck?

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_10.57_[2013.09.14_11.06.24]

I can’t think one.

[DameDesuYo] Love Lab - 08 (720p x264 AAC) [DC4AACA5].mkv_snapshot_20.56_[2013.09.14_11.19.57]

And another great spelling mistake.

This specific improvement point may be the most difficult to manage for DDY.

DDY, if you’re going to put out subs of this quality, then you either need to improve or just sub faster than everyone else and hope it’s good enough for most idiots. As-is, you’re not offering any value to your viewers other than “we’re not Hadena”, and that’s not much to be proud of.

  1. “The karaoke complimented the credits” <- this is the second time you've done this on a Love Lab review. It should be "complemented".

…I wish I had something more interesting to say, but I don't watch this show. Then again, what's more interesting to D_S than grammar?
