Opening. Fansubbing has gone too far. …and I like it.

Rating: Great.

Ending. Good, but if they turned down the effect a bit, it’d be better.

Rating: Good.

Typesetting.

They did it all. Coulda taken 40 more screens, but I think what I capped here should suffice to give you the right impression.

She’ll “give it a shot”? Yeah, no. She’s a bit more competent than Kiri-chan.

While the “That’s… amazing, in a sense.” reeks of generic translation, and the first line needs a rephrase so it doesn’t seem like the site is intentionally awful (“The official homepage only has minimal amounts of information.”), the real problem here is in the middle. I read those lines and my eyes glaze over.

“You can only perform character management, e-currency exchange”

“and most other account-related functions in the game itself.”

“conceited” really isn’t the term I’d use here. I would suggest you use a fork of “stupid” for this line, but I’m a bit concerned you’d end up sticking one up your nose instead.

Actually, I take that back. Maybe a lobotomy is in order.

I would’ve been really confused by this line if I hadn’t already watched the Crunchyroll version. She’s supposed to be saying she’d quit playing the game completely if she lost in the prelims. Needs to be clearer since “I’ll quit” could refer to a lot of things.

I’ll quit. -> I’ll quit GGO entirely.

Wherever the “to begin with” is coming from, you need to send it back there.

I’d say it’s a toss-up between FFF and Hiryuu for this show. I’d probably recommend FFF over Hiryuu, just for the speed benefits, but personally I’m just gonna go with Crunchyroll, since I don’t want anything delaying me from Sinon’s delicious backside.

  1. since Xythar confronted me on being more direct about my comments, I suppose I’ll be frank about it.

    >let’s fight to the fullest -> let’s not hold anything back

Let’s not hold anything back isn’t common English either, however grammatically correct it may be. Try “no holding back.” Add “for either of us” if you’re picky on details. when reviewing, relevant comments and fixes are much appreciated (please do note that was sarcastic, to be frank).

I don’t think this line says what you think it says. Go back to whining to Xythar about me until you learn how to literacy.

      • If what you interpreted from my line isn’t what I meant, then apparently this site has failed (for a long while) to fulfill its original purpose of reviewing various fansubs. If that is the case, then I suppose it wouldn’t be considered a mistake to point out an error in English and make the same error yourself in attempting to suggest a fix. As far as I’m concerned, such mistakes are “irrelevant to the topic at hand”, just as personal attacks to fansub groups and your corny jokes are.

        • You’re not a native English speaker, are you? Honest feedback: your writing is painful to read.

For your suggestion, I wouldn’t have much a problem with it… if this were a dub and the VA spoke past the line quickly. Otherwise, it’s awful.

As far as personal attacks and corny jokes… welcome to Crymore?

          • Sorry. I just wanted to find a way to point out a mistake without calling you incompetent for it. It’s okay if you don’t know what subtlety is, but if you’d rather be called incompetent for every human error that you make, by all means, feel free to say so. I would just rather respect the effort that is placed before bashing the lack of results that come from it. Not sure if you feel me, that’s from the heart.

As far as the suggestion goes, if that is the limitation of your English, then I suppose that can’t be helped. The line “let’s not hold anything back,” I personally have not heard that line in any particular movie, book, TV show, or any other media that I’ve come across that is originally in English, but, to quote you, “I wouldn’t have much a problem with it… if this were a dub and the VA spoke past the line quickly. Otherwise, it’s awful.” We stand by our opinions, so be it.

            • I wouldn’t say it’s a mistake, but I do appreciate the effort. I shouldn’t be free of criticism just because I’m the sexiest thing to hit the fansub scene since FlashGordon.

            • Not holding back is something you hear in English conversations regarding competitions. It’s not a figurative saying, so, if you know the language, you should understand what it means. Most commonly, it’s “don’t hold back” (challenger) or “I won’t hold back” (challenged).

You seem to be smug but your wording is somewhat awkward. If English is your second language, it’s pretty good… Except for the fact that you’re using that uncomfortable English to bash someone much better at the language than you.

The problem might be with this error message that got returned: “fontconfig: cannot find font ‘Montara Gothic’, falling back to ‘Montara-Gothic'”. Though my google searches haven’t much helped in resolving it. (And yes, the font is installed.)
