This series is a biggest waste of time since that night I tried hitting on Ellen DeGeneres.

OP. Had no problems with it.

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_23.39_[2013.08.09_22.09.14]

ED. Same as above.

Main Script.

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_00.10_[2013.08.09_20.42.50]

According to the script comments, the original line was supposed to be “Don’t drag the blue sky into this.” I too like this line better.

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_02.16_[2013.08.09_20.46.51]

生徒会長 is “Student Council President,” Not “Student Council”

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_02.42_[2013.08.09_20.49.32]

I rarely see lines that are clearly adapted, yet still sound like stiff translations. Riko is actually saying “Stop omitting the subjects of your statements as if you intended to do it!” Koku’s edit: “Quit making it sound like a double entendre!”

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_03.33_[2013.08.09_20.56.41]

They should have went with “The Perfect Love Machine of Snipe?”

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_03.53_[2013.08.09_21.01.16]

I get what they’re trying to do here: Sayori mentions mixers (gokon), Maki the ijit thought she meant choir competitions (gasshou konkuuru). Yes, mixed choruses (those containing both *gasp* males and females) do exist, but I guess FFF wanted to up the funny in this line.

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_13.40_[2013.08.09_21.37.40]

So foroo always have to mean “follow” huh? This line is passable, but I would have went with “You’re not helping!”

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_17.12_[2013.08.09_21.47.17]

Didn’t bother to typeset two things in this scene, but I’m sure you’ll all figure out that the blinking guy is her boyfriend and they keep in touch through writing.

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_17.35_[2013.08.09_21.49.09]

Yeeeaaaah… no.

Yes, the word tanpaku does mean “frank or candid” but the word you’re looking here is “vanilla,” or in Sayori’s case “so vanilla it tastes like boiled cabbage.”

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_18.33_[2013.08.09_21.53.39]

Do those look like work trousers to you? Go with “long johns.” It fits the whole winter ensemble.

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_20.00_[2013.08.09_22.00.33]

Line’s way too long, change to “This may not be a matter for the police.”

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_21.36_[2013.08.09_22.05.29]

They translated tsundere ,_,

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_22.00_[2013.08.09_22.06.31]

This is the biggest problem leechers have with FFF’s release, and frankly I agree with them. As you all probably know, the word “Dutchy” comes from the word “Dutch husband wife” which, according to the dictionary means “an open framework used in bed as a rest for the limbs.”

Okay, just kidding. According to the English Wikipedia, the term Dutch wife does mean “dakimakura.” However, in Japanese Wikipedia (NSFW), the term Dutch Wife carries a whole different connotation. Also it shows that the Japanese do have a term for a Dutch wife, which is “Dutch wife.” Over here we call those things “sex dolls.”  Since they plainly say Dutchy is just a dakimakura, that means it’s not a full on sex doll. Saying that it is would, um, complicate (to say the least) what is supposed to be a light-hearted comedy series. So everyone else is right when they just call that thing a hug pillow and Huggy. Plus how could dakkii not be translated into “Huggy”?

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_22.07_[2013.08.09_22.06.48]

There’s that foroo again.

Other Observations

[FFF] Love Lab - 04v2 [F9B690F6].mkv_snapshot_16.05_[2013.08.09_21.45.04]

I almost didn’t notice that the sign was typesetted. That’s how barely readable it is.

Final Grade: A-

Overall a good script, though there were a couple of derps, “Dutchy” being one of them. When it comes to choosing between FFF and Commie, it’s pretty much Pick Your Poison time.

  1. Not reviewing the second sub track? FFF do two tracks for Love Lab. The second one is called ‘dakki’ and loses localizations.

For this ep, the main differences were

    – dakki for dutchy
    – ‘tsundere’ for ‘bashful’

  2. Just to note, FFF include a second set of subs with every episode from 2 onwards that were made specifically to replace “dutchy” with “dakky”
