Chihiro, please stop trying to steal Commie’s disqualifications.

So much fansubbing it required two images!

Let’s make it worse~

Most fakesubbers are determined to become failsubbers. Let’s see how Chihiro managed.

[Chihiro]_Golden_Time_-_01_[1280x720_H.264_AAC][912513E4].mkv_snapshot_02.15_[2013.10.13_00.58.13]

Original: Excuse me. I’m Tada Banri of the law school.

This edit makes it like he came from the law school rather than that he belongs to it. It’s a subtle difference, but it matters.

[Chihiro]_Golden_Time_-_01_[1280x720_H.264_AAC][912513E4].mkv_snapshot_07.17_[2013.10.13_00.59.00]

Original: She was, well… a disaster…

If you’re gonna change a line to something, at least understand the basic grammar behind it. “Rather, she was… a disaster.”

Not bad, Chihiro. You’re getting a hang of this fakesubbing game.

No, the Crunchy script wasn’t perfect. Nice try.

If there’s anything I’ve learned from fansubbers it’s that they’ll go to great lengths to defend their failings from others. So here, have some examples of why the Crunchy script actually needed editing.

[Chihiro]_Golden_Time_-_01_[1280x720_H.264_AAC][912513E4].mkv_snapshot_02.57_[2013.10.13_01.16.29]

I think if you walked into an apartment and said “this is my solitary living debut”, you’d find yourself in a straightjacket right-quick.

[Chihiro]_Golden_Time_-_01_[1280x720_H.264_AAC][912513E4].mkv_snapshot_07.02_[2013.10.13_01.21.47] [Chihiro]_Golden_Time_-_01_[1280x720_H.264_AAC][912513E4].mkv_snapshot_07.05_[2013.10.13_01.21.55]

Brain… shutting down…

[Chihiro]_Golden_Time_-_01_[1280x720_H.264_AAC][912513E4].mkv_snapshot_09.55_[2013.10.13_01.27.18] [Chihiro]_Golden_Time_-_01_[1280x720_H.264_AAC][912513E4].mkv_snapshot_10.01_[2013.10.13_01.27.28]

If her dad just runs a hospital, like being a CEO or something, that doesn’t mean she’ll inherit it.

You know, Chihiro, maybe if one day you stopped brushing your teeth with molten lead, people would take you more seriously. But it doesn’t seem that day will be today.

  1. Every time I read one of these, I wish somebody could just get Crunchyroll to sub songs and typeset more so half of what’s left of fansubbing could just get on with their lives (or just waste more time on MMOs).

    • It’s a licensing issue with Japanese record companies having copyright to the song lyrics. Some guy from Crunchyroll said he translated the themes for a multi-cour show and by the time he got permission to use them they’d nearly changed OPs.

      • Actually, that makes some sense. I’ve noticed that a lot of Japanese websites that host song lyrics are designed so the lyrics can’t be copied either. It would make sense if their record companies are just that protectionist.

  2. Is it that common that fansubbers just simply copy HS subs and “edit” it? I mean we already have 6 fakesubs and underwater’s release is a HS edit as well. Previous seasons I vaguely knew this site existed and wasn’t really aware of how this whole fansubbing process goes…

    • It hasnt really been common until the past couple seasons simply because Crunchyroll/Horriblesubs have really been ramping up their licensed shows to the point that, this season, almost every show is simulcast.

      Reply
    • There are groups that do original translations (Evetaku is one) though it seems this season is full of CR edits since CR are subbing the majority of shows.

Should probably mention some groups don’t sub simulcast shows for whatever reason.

  3. D_S, u know, with all these disqualifications because of editing, you should take this as a chance to concentrate on some of the things you dont normally spend as much time on. Like Typesetting and karaoke. :3

  4. LOL.
Honestly, I can’t stop laughing when I see your reviews.
Because everyone knows I don’t care at all about review shits.

    • So that’s why you rejected my application as a TL. CR “editing” is better than going all the way through a FOB’s C-tier TL, huh? Or maybe you just don’t care about the script you give out, either; you just want to stick a script to your video and call it a day. I just hope you don’t pull down begna112’s leg.

Well, yeah. You’d have to be a pretty damn good translator for it to be worth doing an original translation over most CR scripts, and even the worst CR scripts I’ve worked with are better than the horrors that translators who don’t really speak English can commit (like, I have no idea what your last sentence is trying to say at all).

There’s no love lost between me and Chihiro, but I certainly don’t blame them for not wanting to spend untold hours of their life putting out something that’s almost certainly going to be worse than the simulcast.

        • Thanks for showing me the ropes.

“I just hope you don’t pull down begna112′s leg.” means “I just hope you don’t drag down begna112 with you.”

              • Lol nope. Well if two men provokes me then I guess I have no choice but to clear off the misunderstanding. I’m a Hungarian with a Hungarian real name and Hungarian is my only native language. I translate from Japanese.
I left in my mistake of writing “two men provokes” because it’s a literal translation from Hungarian. I know enough Chinese to be able to say with confidence that Chinese has no plural for nouns. (I know it doesn’t directly prove that I’m not Chinese.) Also, I’m not saying that it results in native-level English, but there is less Engrish in my scripts or they are in the comments since I think it’s more important for me to make a more precise translation than it is to give my editor rejoicing level MAX. Generally speaking, I do sometimes add in non-English stuff for making people rejoice. I guess I could try to write in (native) English (other kinds of English are usually called “not English”) but seeing that my native language is not English, I can’t possibly have success doing it unless I redo every aspects of life in an English-speaking country.

  5. Really hard to take this website seriously anymore. Not exactly sure what its purpose is when it refuses to review 57% of the releases this season and use the excuse of “fakesub”.

    Reply
    • There is no noticeable difference between “your” subs and Crunchyroll’s. If you’re not willing to put in the effort to make your release worth downloading, you can’t expect me to give you a glowing review… or any review at all.

And the thing you fail to realize when you say “anymore” is that I’ve been disqualifying non-edits since Crymore started. I did start calling groups out on it more noticeably last season though, so that may be what you have a problem with. But I would think that as an experienced group leader you’d be more angry at your staff not doing anything than you would be at me for pointing it out. I thought you still had at least that much pride.

      • Yes, you used to do it on straight up remuxes. Now you’re completely disregarding small edits (only choosing to show sections that had no changes as an excuse), typesetting, and songs.

This site is a joke now. I miss the old days when it used to actually be worth something.

        Reply
    • Wouldn’t that be because reviewing a group’s translation and subtitles is a waste of time when they didn’t even edit the original script? I mean, for the person watching things like karaoke and font and such can make it worthwhile to watch, but there’s nothing to review aside from the fact that there’s nothing to review…

Or do you really expect the reviewer to put more effort into it than the people he’s reviewing?

      Reply
    • Really hard to take your group seriously when your editor doesn’t even attempt to edit the CR script, despite it possessing obvious problems. Maybe you should address the problems with your group rather than getting upset about people pointing them out.

      Reply
    • well, the site focuses on the script rather than the kfx or typesetting which is why there’s less reason to review a script that has been barely edited from CR’s.

  6. On a side-note, anime has it’s own logic.

“If her dad just runs a hospital… that doesn’t mean she’ll inherit it.” I thought hospital fiefdom was an anime trope. Of course the hospital could be under her father’s charitable foundation and she’s the groomed (heir apparent) successor. Lastly, it’s conceivable, if unheard of, for a wealthy individual to own a major hospital outright. Maybe Kaga’s dad feared Obamacare was coming to Japan and he wanted to protect himself :-P

Anyway, it’d be “heir to” not “heiress of.”
