Visual Review

Karaoke.

Opening. The font made sense and it got the theme across, but I don’t think it meshed very well with the credits.

Rating: Okay.

Ending. Pretty simple ED. Nothing too impressive, nothing too unimpressive. It worked.

Rating: Okay.

Typesetting.

Didn’t even notice this when I watched the show, but I saw the typesetting in the script when I was comparing it to gg’s so I figured I’d toss in an image.

Other

Asenshi’s Jormungand is 1.36 GB for a reason, and this is it:

Honestly, the difference doesn’t appear to be worth a difference of 1.1 GB, but if you’ve got the extra space and feel it’s worthwhile, that’s your call.

Script Review

Karaoke.

How do you embrace a color? The fuck are you doing, Asenshi?

The spoken line at this point was untranslated in Asenshi’s release.

My mind is so full of fuck it’s getting pregnant.

Main Script.

What do you mean “the Umihotaru’s parking area”? You do realize Umihotaru is an island, right? Replace it with the name of another island and you’ll see why this is a shitty line.

“The location is the Hawaii’s parking area.” <- ugh

What in a blue unicorn’s dick is this shit?

“Well, I’ll tell you why I won’t quit this job.”

Oh, a one-time salary increase? Huh, I bet it would be handy to have a word for something like that. Maybe… “bonus” would work? Hm, nah. That’d never catch on.

Shoulda ried harder, Asenshi.

Very poorly timed. It’s hard to read these lines as-is.

Again, very shitty timing. I like to be able to watch my subs without having to rewind to understand them.

Direct Comparison (Where Asenshi did better than gg)

gg had: “The place is eerily calm. Stay alert.”
gg had: “Have your fun.”
Idiom use.

Asenshi tended toward idioms to get messages across more often than gg did. As a fan of the literary tools, I found that to be a definite pro in favor of Asenshi.

That was pretty much the main tilt toward Asenshi’s end. gg had a general advantage here as you’ll see in their review.

Watchability: Watchable.

Visual grade: B

Script grade: B

Overall grade: B

This is a solid Jormungand release. For those of you who care more about the encode than anything, Asenshi’s release will be up your alley, but if you care more about script and having a manageable filesize (and I suppose speed as well), you’ll find your best bet is gg.

  1. >What do you mean, “the midnight”? The midnight what? This is the same thing as saying “The three o’clock makes me rage!” It’s nonsensical fucking gibberish.

    It actually says “midnight’s.”

    “The midnight’s making me sick.”

    • All right, let me give you an example as to why I think it sounds like shit.

“The noon is making me sick.”

I suppose one COULD argue that they’re using midnight in the sense of darkness, but–
…Actually, I suppose they probably would argue they’re using it in that sense. I fucking hate this language sometimes.

      • Still doesn’t make the line any less confusing, though. I suppose the context matters, but there are surely better ways to phrase that. Is he getting nauseous from the night? Ill? Fed up with the night? I suspect the line makes contextual sense and I’ll just end up looking stupid, though. :/
