I have no clue why Hatsuyuki chose the effect they did. It sorta seems like it could work at some points, but it’s really just… meaningless to the OP. Looks cool, I guess.

Rating: Okay.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_22.09_[2013.02.05_22.07.53] [Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_22.32_[2013.02.05_22.08.21]

Ending. It looks more retarded in the screenshots than it does when you’re watching it. Thought it was a decent choice — hit the right notes for me.

Rating: Good.

You know, I usually expect a little more from your logos, Hatsuyuki. What happened here?

I’m not sure I can draw a conclusion about the visual quality of the typesetting from just this shit.

distant warmth, question mark

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_03.04_[2013.02.05_22.02.44]

This is going to be the only piece of praise I give you for the script, so savor it.

Thanks for not being bakatarded and trying to work “Bang!” in as a translation. I mean, really? “Don’t hesitate and Bang!”? “Bang! Without hesitation”? Fucking stupid as fuck.

Okay, that’s it. Onto the hate.

Main Script.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_00.38_[2013.02.05_18.03.01]

“She’s more senior”? Please. PLEASE.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_00.27_[2013.02.05_19.01.10]

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_00.46_[2013.02.05_18.03.25]

I don’t know if you realize this, Hatsuyuki, but “Demon Lord” is pretty much a class in this realm. There are multiple Demon Lords in the show. Therefore, “the Demon Lord” (indicating there’s only one) is completely wrong.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_01.11_[2013.02.05_18.03.58]

“Rabbits have the authority to judge and referee games.”

The way it’s currently phrased makes it seem like “The rabbits” is a group that doesn’t include her.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_01.33_[2013.02.05_18.04.25]

Maybe I’m just imposing my barbarian Western values on your high-class Rising Sun-style subs, but wouldn’t it be more logical for him to be criticizing her eavesdropping in general? “for so long” seems like information that’s either not there or is unnecessary to include because it confuses the purpose of his sentence.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_04.12_[2013.02.05_20.53.28]

This grammar makes it seem like Black Bunny is talking to Leticia when she’s actually talking to Iyazoi.

“No, that’s our friend: Leticia-sama!”

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_04.59_[2013.02.05_20.55.41] [Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_05.03_[2013.02.05_20.55.49] [Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_05.07_[2013.02.05_20.55.58] [Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_05.11_[2013.02.05_20.56.06]

They actually started four fucking sentences in a row with the word “I”. And while we’re on the subject of poor writing, the characterization is absolute shit.

The script in general is piss-poor, but I figured I’d highlight this as the most egregious example of shit writing that people don’t tend to pick up on.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_07.07_[2013.02.05_21.03.42] [Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_07.10_[2013.02.05_21.03.49]

Except he then essentially says he’s going to attack them.

I already know what you’re going to say. “But Dark_Sage, he was being sarcastic/flamboya–” Shut your mouth. You’re only seeing half the picture.

True, his response is your typical talking-out-the-side-of-your-mouth reply “I won’t ___, but I will ___” so what you need to do to make this format work is to change the language up. “I won’t attack them, but I will attack them” is shit. It doesn’t get the full meaning of the scene across because it’s presenting this asshole as some idiot instead of a wisecracking douchemonger.

Something with the logic of “I won’t take them from behind, but I will give them a little spanking” would work. Except perhaps in a less sexualized fashion.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_07.42_[2013.02.05_19.30.21]

Wrong tense for this scene. It’s “died”.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_08.32_[2013.02.05_19.32.27]

No, they’re not taking turns to throw lances at each other. They’re taking turns throwing one lance at each other. Fail on multiple levels.

“We take turns throwing this lance at each other.” {This is accurate. You could rephrase it if you want though.}

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_10.22_[2013.02.05_19.34.41]

Hatsuyuki’s weird. They tend to stutter when there’s no stuttering and forget about it when there is.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_10.26_[2013.02.05_19.34.54]

“He’s from the town, Chicago!” Ooh, just barely missed the English mark there.

“They’re from the community of Perseus!”

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_10.57_[2013.02.05_21.37.28]

Typically the exchange of goods for currency is called a “sale”, not a “trade”, but way to bring it back to the basics, Hatsuyuki!

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_11.19_[2013.02.05_19.36.16] [Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_11.22_[2013.02.05_19.36.23]

How does “dedication” even relate to this? The obvious word to use here is “patience”. (None of the three groups came even close to having a reasonable line for this, though.)

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_13.17_[2013.02.05_21.40.09]

I’ll give you

  • three meals (okayish but not really)
  • a collar (fine)
  • play with you every night (not acceptable at all)

Really, Hatsuyuki? You can’t handle a simple fucking list?

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_14.52_[2013.02.05_19.40.59]

If you find yourself using “her” three times in a sentence, that’s probably good indication you need to vary it up. Replace the first one with “Leticia-sama”.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_19.30_[2013.02.05_19.46.14]

Perseus wasn’t a knight. Goddamn, you nitwits, I learned this shit back in elementary school. Maybe you were looking for “hero” instead.

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_20.07_[2013.02.05_19.51.17]

has been -> was

Hatsuyuki, what are you doing?

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_20.38_[2013.02.05_19.52.24]

“imagining”? What? No, try “doing”. He’s saying that raping Black Rabbit every night would be fun, not that imagining it every night would be fun.

Where the fuck do you come up with these interpretations?

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_21.45_[2013.02.05_19.54.19] [Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_21.49_[2013.02.05_19.54.27]

While I want to say this repetition is intentional and meant to underscore the “so badly” part, I don’t… I don’t think it was. And the tenses are off.

you’d -> you’ll

[Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_23.32_[2013.02.05_18.16.27] [Hatsuyuki]_Mondaijitachi_ga_Isekai_Kara_Kuru_Sou_Desu_yo_-_04_[1280x720][FC952BB7].mkv_snapshot_23.36_[2013.02.05_18.16.18]

His response would be “Yeah, I totally do.” assuming you wanted your script to resemble English. But from what I’ve seen throughout this episode, I take it that wasn’t your group’s primary strategy with this release.

I have no clue how groups can release Crunchyroll edits this bad, but it looks like Hatsuyuki put their best retards on this project to ensure they’d reach that goal.

Avoid.

  1. This is why I watch HS/CR. The only group that might be worth watching is Commie, but you never know when the fuck they’re going to release.

Gotta defend them for this one; she literally said “selflessness,” meaning that she doesn’t try to kill people when she’s pissed. She would typically herself for pity or something, as evidenced by her will to sell herself into slavery.

Shouldn’t ‘the’ be replaced by ‘my’ as well?

“was been happening” is complete gibberish.

  5. It’s 7-digit gate.

You should probably re-watch episode 2.

The amount of digits in the gate’s number signifies their rank. The lower the amount of digits the higher they are.

Related note: The no-names are in gate 2105380.

    • Hatsuyuki chose to keep it lowercase in their release, which is fine, and they’re consistent with it. It’s a stylistic decision. Not the one I’d make, but not one I’d hold against them.

  6. Just curious; why do you take screenshots as .jpg files? I understand that lossless .png isn’t needed for the screenshots in the Script Review section, but for the Visual Review section, the lossy .jpg files make it harder for me to judge typesetting.

    Reply
    • Well, it’s not for space constraints — this site is actually pretty low-key (I think we’re at like 3 GB for everything now). The reason is bandwidth. I just took two screenshots — one jpeg and png. The difference is between 56 KB and 1.45 MB. Apply those numbers to the 45 screenshots I took for this review and you get 2.52 MB vs. 65.25 MB. If everyone was surfing this site from non-capped ISPs and on relatively stable connections, then sure, I’d just do PNGs for everything.

But when dealing with bandwidth caps and slow connections, I can see people just taking one look at all the data my site’s trying to force at them and just turning away. For that reason, it’s not worth it to go the PNG route. I realize it makes it harder to compare typesetting, but I don’t currently have a remedy that works for everyone.

        • D_S is currently using JPEG 75 which is above what most use for the web (~60-70) This post alone has ~40 images.

          Stats and images:

I took a screenshot from BTS: NEXT.
          PNG Uncompressed: ~2.8MB
          PNG Compressed (lossless): ~756.6KB
^ 72.73% decrease from the uncompressed image
          JPEG 75: ~107.4KB
^ 85.81% decrease from the compressed PNG
^ 96.13% decrease from the uncompressed PNG

          2.8MB * 40 = 112MB
          756.6KB * 40 = 30264KB = 29.6MB
          107.4KB * 40 = 4296KB = 4.2MB

Comparison images: (I forgot to add file sizes)
          https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jhr0jn71accw4qs/WVG8LTHY4b/Compare

Even the smallest increase in quality make a big difference in file size and bandwidth. I think the current quaility D_S uses is just fine.

          Reply
    • I would guess bandwidth. He hosts the images on his site instead of an external image host.

The images are full size with acceptable quaility, IMO.

  7. Ooh, ooh, I can be helpful here.

The story of the moon rabbit goes that one day, a god disguised as a man was walking through a forest and came across three animals. There animals were charged with finding food for him, which two did, bringing him fish and berries. The third however-the rabbit-instructed him to make a fire instead. The god-man did so and as soon as it was lit, the rabbit jumped into the fire so that his flesh could be cooked and eaten. The god-man was so overjoyed by this, the sick weirdo, that he put the rabbit’s soul or something in the moon, hence moon rabbit. The more you know… ;)

Not sure about the Gorgon line either. I’ve heard Medusa referred to in a lot of TV adaptations as “the Gorgon” so it’s likely that the show went down that route too. You can hardly blame the sub for its inaccuracy if it’s a direct translation. I agree with knight being wrong though – unless this is some alternative timeline? Hard to tell just from what I know about the show.

    Reply
    • Most pop culture depictions of the myth seem to ignore the existence of any Gorgons other than Medusa, so I wouldn’t really fault them for not being super accurate on the mythology. Odds are the writers of the show didn’t look into the myth that much either.

  8. What this review demonstrates is that illiteracy runs amok at MAL (This is not a surprise). It’s just stupid that MAL’s preferred group for this show is Hatsuyuki (The subs are cringeworthy).

    • Dark_Sage intends to get the fansub reviews out for the show soon. Though since it’s Wednesday, Tamako Market (subbing the show) takes priority.
