As far as I know, no one else is subbing this. Reviewing ep 2 because I saw ep 1 a long, long time ago.

Um, well, I guess the rainbow effect wouldn’t be easy, but still…

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_00.33_[2013.07.21_13.58.18]

And so on. Not gonna cap six screenshots for the same reason.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_00.33_[2013.07.21_13.58.29]

Fine.

That ‘l’ is super, super weird. Did you have to pick that font?

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_01.31_[2013.07.21_13.59.59]

Nothing.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_01.39_[2013.07.21_14.00.12]

Oh, so now you typeset the rainbows. And they look pretty decent.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_03.18_[2013.07.21_14.02.11]

Everything that was important was typeset.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_04.27_[2013.07.21_14.03.21]

The ‘G’ on this font is really bad.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_04.33_[2013.07.21_14.03.45]

Not their fault, but damn, these signs are hard to read.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_04.42_[2013.07.21_14.03.56]

At least this is the last one!

Don’t really know how you’d typeset this, anyway.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_13.15_[2013.07.21_14.13.21]

Not typeset, but no room for it, either.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_15.44_[2013.07.21_14.16.06]

okay, so I know this would be hard as fuck, and it’s kind of obvious what it is, but it’s really important.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_20.41_[2013.07.21_14.21.10]

Not typeset.

Not fine at all. First of all, we don’t really care. Second of all, \an7 that shit with a line break!

Script

WTF are “cottons”? Are you talking about cotton balls, by chance? Otherwise, “cotton” is the plural form of the noun. You can’t make it singular, anyway. “I picked a cotton.” Makes no sense!

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_01.50_[2013.07.21_14.00.25]

“Nights” aren’t a place. You want “when”.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_02.34_[2013.07.21_14.01.22]

Verb agreement. The first part of the sentence uses “we’ll”, so the second part should, too.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_03.15_[2013.07.21_14.02.04]

This is awkward. I like putting a “why” after reasons in this type of sentence, but I still don’t think that fixes it entirely.

> I’ve decided to go to the reunion for several reasons.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_05.12_[2013.07.21_14.04.28]

“But.” isn’t a sentence on it’s own. Maybe consult with the translator to find a better word.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_06.37_[2013.07.21_14.06.14]

She’s not a late thirty; she’s a woman in her late thirties.

Also, this sentence is so bad that I don’t even know how to rephrase it.

That may be where the reasons lie for us plain and inexperienced women in our late thirties.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_10.16_[2013.07.21_14.10.05]

There are. Organizers is plural.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_17.59_[2013.07.21_14.18.25]

No comma after a conjunction.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_19.38_[2013.07.21_14.20.05]

No comma after a conjunction.

[Commie] Otona Joshi no Anime Time 2 - 02 [026BA528].mkv_snapshot_23.16_[2013.07.21_14.23.50]

Do you hear me, Commie? No comma after a conjunction!

tl;dr: Not like you have a choice, anyway.

  1. Could you do a comparison between [polished] and [Underwater-Ryuumaru] releases for Otome Youkai Zakuro? CR vs original TL.

    Reply
    • CR’s script for Zakuro was top notch, and the group translating it from scratch seemed to have quite a bit of TL mistakes in their subs. Script-wise the choice should be easy.

I could link you to a post on BakaBT forums where I listed some examples based on Ji-Hi comparison shots, but sadly since Ji-Hi is dead you can’t view the actual lines…

      • I can actually view the screenshots from this site: http://ji-hi.doulostheos.com/anime/otome-youkai-zakuro

I have little doubt that CR’s script is inferior, but it often seems stiff to me. Original TLs usually add more emotion and a certain feel to the anime, which enhances the viewing experience.

I’m not sure if that’s the case this time around though, which is why I’m wondering which release should I pick.

Unless you consider stilted and awkward English to have more “more emotion”, I guess that could be true… but if not, then that’s most certainly not the case here.

And generally speaking, professional translations fare better at the whole translation thing compared to fan translations (though fan translation quality has also gone up throughout the years, mostly through a process of elimination), even if professional releases are inferior to fan releases in pretty much every other regard (and obviously since fan releases can also use professional translations, it’s not really much of an issue either).

      • Daiz, if we wanted your opinion we’d just go to Nyaa and filter A+. I mean, we all know how unbiased that is.

Let the comparison speak for itself instead of injecting your shitty opinion everywhere you see your group mentioned.

        • But shouldn’t you agree that professional translations usually do it better? After all, you’re doing CR rips yourself this very season, with rather minor editing (beyond the untranslating stuff) to boot (at least when compared to the competition). Clearly you consider even average CR scripts to be more worthy than doing a translation from scratch, then!

          • Need versus Want. Chihiro needs to use CR scripts because our translators have pretty much run dry. Everyone left now either takes far too long to be relevant, or just doesn’t exist.

If we had a good reliable translator, we would be doing original translations even if CR was also doing it.

That said, professional translations tend to do it better than most groups on two spectrums. They tend to do better than groups like SubDesu, Critter-subs, Doremi, etc, because they won’t have typos or awkward phrases. They also do better than groups like Commie, Underwater, and gg, because they remember that Japanese shows happen in Japan and don’t try to go all 4kids on it. They do worse than the middle spectrum – groups like Doki, Chihiro, UTW, and FFF.
