[Anime-Koi] Devil Survivor 2 The Animation - 07 [h264-720p][637E6331].mkv_snapshot_02.04_[2013.06.15_22.23.23] [Anime-Koi] Devil Survivor 2 The Animation - 07 [h264-720p][637E6331].mkv_snapshot_02.21_[2013.06.15_22.24.12]

Opening. I guess Anime-Koi tried to do this right, but they really bungled it up. Lines change color to match the characters being highlighted on the screen, but the characters often are switched up frequently, meaning the dominant colors need to change as well. But Anime-Koi doesn’t manage the changes correctly, leading to scenarios like the first screen, where the colors don’t fit.

The karaoke effect works well when you’re just watching the opening and not paying much attention to anything, but if you want to use it as karaoke, the effect doesn’t really help you with that. Basically, you need to be looking a syllable ahead, and that’s not really the best way to run it.

Rating: Okay-.

Ending/Insert. Well, it’s… existent. I guess.

It’s not going to win any awards.

While half the song is in Engrish, the entire translation is.

I have not thought about a living until yesterday
It’s just a scene with lie a one’s end or feel like I ‘m burned
Or I have a feels slightly changing
I feel like almost crying
Me inside on canon night
Boy you have to believe
I take in!
Close your eyes, emerge with you, must do that
Close my eyes, anytime that I pray for Joys
Just believe in far away,
To live for that…
We’re gonna do this all the way
Yeah, yeah, yeah…
Just believe in far away
To live for that…
Can you try to teach me peace

No, that’s not a good thing.

The OP also sucks, but to a lesser degree. Not gonna bother taking screenprints when I already have so many to show the issues with the main script.

Edit: HQDniuhk successfully argued it’s probably too much to expect high quality from the ED. I agree. So while my criticism stands, it will no longer affect A-Koi’s score.

Main Script.

Here, she says “Hibiki-kun”, so leaving it like this would be fine if they weren’t using honorifics in this release.

…but they do use honorifics in this release sometimes. The standard appears to be applied somewhat randomly.

Prepare yourself. Anime-Koi fucked a whole kennel of pooches with this release.

What in the fuck am I reading? This entire scene was gibberish.

Put periods at the end of your sentences. Also, put a gun to your head and pull the trigger.

She’s not a demonic summoner, she’s a demon summoner. “demonic” means “demon-like” and she’s the furthest thing from it.

The way this is phrased means it should be read as “Io-chan is all right.”

This needs to be phrased as “Io-chan is pretty, all right.” for it to be read as “Io-chan is pretty.”

This line is four syllables in Japanese and 12 in Anime-Koiglish. Not even close.

I’m sure thought never crossed your brain once.

Anime-Koi. What are you doing.

Watchability: Watchable if you hate yourself enough.

Visual grade: C

Script grade: D

Overall grade: D

The HorribleSubs script by itself is terrible, and Anime-Koi’s pathetic edit didn’t make it any better. Goddammit, I’m gonna have to throw Commie a re-review on the offchance their use of spell-check can make up for their contempt of audience. There are really no good options for this show.

What are you doing

Dao says:

Depends on the staff working on the show, especially the editor, which is why A-Koi releases usually shift in quality.

Yeah, shift between mediocre editing and terrible editing…

Hairy says:

Didn’t realize Koi was a shit sub group until today. Good thing I’m not watching this or the emo hair cutting show.

Ryuk says:

You’re on a reviewing role today. Nicsu desu~

PolynAzn says:

Commie’s DS2 has swag, it’s the only reason I watch it.

Layton says:

Dark_Sage, why didn’t you pick Ep 9 or 10? Because the lattter eps use the official lyrics for the Ending song that you pointin’ out in this ep.

Dark_Sage says:

Because you didn’t ask me to pick episode 9+.

Layton says:

Can you tell me what’s wrong with these three lines:
>The government is just a façade.
>The government, huh?
>That adult stuff is such a pain.
That’s the literal tl, you don’t us to put something else there now do you?

And just for the record, the actual editor for this show didn’t edit that ep6 and 7 because he had final exams.

FalseDawn says:

Literal tls don’t always work in the target language. Hence why there’s a role known as “editing.” HTH.

Dark_Sage says:

It’s not English. I don’t know what to say.

What is “that adult stuff” referring to? It’s not clear and only results in confusion. That should be your focus of attention for why the line doesn’t work.

returnity says:

Wow Layton, Dark_Sage is 2 for 2 at picking Anime-Koi shows to review where the actual editor wasn’t available for the episode reviewed. That’s gotta be frustrating as hell for you. =/

Fyurie says:

Maybe they should start getting some consistent staff. w

Layton says:

For? This show? the editor was away for 2 weeks only, because of his exams.

He means find a backup editor who’s almost as competent as your main editor.

Hairy says:

But on your site, you credit the same editor for every episode. Episodes 10 and 11 have two editors credited though.

I don’t think it’s fair for you to pick and choose which episodes D_S can review. You should be maintaining a consistent standard for the show. Even if other episodes are better than this, that still means viewers are having to deal with fluctuations in quality from you.

I really don’t think it’s unreasonable for D_S to think you’d have your shit together on this show by episode 7.

Cookies says:

It could mean that the listings are completely inaccurate.

Dark_Sage says:

Oh, so that’s what happened? I was wondering what was up.

Layton says:

Dark_Sage, I’d like a re-review for it, please choose the later eps, for example ep8 since you have checked the script already.

Kamica says:

You should really try to let him know these things ahead of time.

returnity says:

From the Review Queue page:

Review Order (usually determined by the poll):
1. ???
2. ???
3. ???

Comments on that page show D_S saying he’ll lose motivation if he reviews in order according to the poll.

So if the review order is blanked with ???, he disregards the poll entirely, and reviews appear randomly in bursts with little notice, are group leader just supposed to be psychic with requests of this sort?

Ryuk says:

Well, the group should always release quality releases even if they know that episode isn’t getting reviewed.

I’d say it’s better like this with the ??? because then D_S will catch them by surprise and it’ll be a fair review. If D_S tells them what episode or when he’s going to review it, the group will try it’s best to make THAT episode have the best script.

The element of surprise is good DESU.

Dark_Sage says:

Groups can’t really request certain episodes to reviewed as-is.

I let them specify which episodes should be out of scope for me, and they usually have good reasons for why I shouldn’t review those. I don’t think I’ve had a situation yet where I feel groups are abusing the policy either, which is good (for them, since I don’t much like being dicked around).

Hairy says:

Next season, D_S should go to the IRC channel of each group and tell them he’ll be reviewing their next episode of a show beforehand. That way, they’ll have plenty of time to put more effort into that particular release than normal.

Because then that review will be a true and accurate reflection of the group’s usual standard…

No says:

And he should do that for every episode, whether he is actually going to review that episode or not.

FalseDawn says:

These are all ridiculous suggestions. In every line of work, there are “surprise” inspections, whether it’s teaching, retail, whatever. Ultimately, it’s your decision if you want another editor to fill in for someone due to IRL issues, and this is a genuine reflection of the releases because it shows they’re of variable quality.

In my view, Dark_Sage is over-accommodating with what episodes he does as it is, without bringing petty group politics into the equation.

Dark_Sage says:

If your release of a show hasn’t been reviewed yet and there are episodes you know have problems, and you know Dark_Sage is pretty fucking accomodating with this stuff, it doesn’t hurt to ask him not to review various episodes.

I put the requests on my desktop in folder names so I remember these things now (there were issues in the past where I forgot and then groups were like “y u hate us” but I honestly just have a shitty, shitty memory). A recent example is Oyatsu. They asked for me to not review eps 1-4 of Leviatan for staff change reasons, so I put a note on my desktop and when I got around to Leviatan reviews, I did episode 6.

I’m trying to make this process easier, but I don’t know what else you want me to do. Hell, I even accept requests in the comments, anywhere on the site since I read every single comment anyway.

Dark_Sage says:

You should have asked me before I reviewed it, like you usually do. I’ll consider it, but I doubt I’m even gonna finish this season, and re-reviews are the lowest priority for me.

Layton says:

It is really not that strange to ask a re-review… Dark_Sage do re-reviews if you give him a good reason.

Hairy says:

With the amount of shows in his review backlog and the short amount of time until the end of this season, I highly doubt you’ll get one.

Still don’t see why you should get one either.

Kamica says:

Good point. Wouldn’t hurt Dark_Sage to add in a little note at the top of the page indicating that the episode wasn’t edited though.

Dark_Sage says:

Mm… I guess.

Ryuk says:

Well, you do have a good reason for a re-review, but D_S might not finish this season so a re-review might not happen.

And it’s not like you put a note on your posts that this episode isn’t edited. When I went to your site, this episode’s post looked the same as the old and the new ones. There was no note stating that this episode is un-edited. Basically, that’s saying that not many people know that this episode isn’t edited.

And if editor said that he’s going to be gone for 2 weeks, you should have assigned a new editor even if he/she didn’t have the same editing style as the other one. Or you should have promised a v2 because of the editing.
