I don’t know why I expected anything from WhyNot either. Way to go, fansubbing scene. You sure are keeping us relevant!

Much like Commie’s release, this is another non-edit where the only changes made the script worse. Wait for an actual fansub group to sub this, or just stick with the HorribleSubs/Crunchyroll version since it comes out much quicker.

Note: Like the last Free! review, because this release was unedited, it’s disqualified from being considered worthy of a fansub review. So instead I’m just going to point out why you shouldn’t bother with it. The normal review format will return when someone actually fansubs something.

I’m beginning to think WhyNot legitimately believes they came up with the rainbow karaoke rather than awkwardly pulling the idea from gg with no idea how to implement it.

It doesn’t work in this release, but then again it never works in anything they do.

I mean, damn, the encode is even worse. http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/30741

Are you sure? “kobun” (classic lit) is short for “kotenbungaku” (classical literature). I heard nothing else in the line that would indicate it’s specifically Japanese classic lit she teaches. And even if it was, he fucking said “kobun”, so shorten it.

Might want to avoid getting ahead of yourself there, WhyNot. Crunchyroll has access to the literacy you don’t.

You’d only use “a Plan B” if you were talking in the sense of “Oh god, we need a Plan B!” or “WhyNot, I wish your mothers had taken a Plan B pill.”

Don’t edit if you don’t know English.

Why are you removing information from the subs? Are you intentionally trying to fuck up?

Summary

Pathetic effort, WhyNot. Have a little pride in your work.

Like I said in the beginning, avoid this release.

Why do you believe this is a thing? because it’s not, fool!

Dark_Sage says:

It’s a thing, just not a good one.

danuchiha99 says:

Wait, is this how reviews are going to be from now on? No more grades or anything?

Dark_Sage says:

This is how reviews are for disqualified groups. Actual fansubs will receive normal review posts.

kokujin-kun says:

See, Sage? You dropped the show thinking other people will gay up the script, but look what happened :(

TKW says:

WhyNot is pretty worthless unless ReadingSteiner is helping them it seems.

>It doesn’t work in this release, but then again it never works in anything they do.
Not true, it worked in UtaPri. Well, not so much in S2 because they kept choosing dull, ugly colours for some reason. At least the rainbow subs were fabulous.

But I agree that it doesn’t work for this show. I have to say, I’m genuinely surprised that it looks like I’ll be going with CR. Usually that only happens for shows like Mushibugyo, where the only other option is a shitty re-encode.

zanon says:

Even Dark_Sage agreed that it actually kind of worked in Thermae Romae, though that was such a whacky production anyway that probably near anything could have.

But yeah, as a one-off or once in a long while thing it was kind of amusing, as the group trademark it’s apparently become not so much.

Pelfmiester says:

It’s a good thing I wasn’t interested in this show in the first place. I think they used rainbow karaoke because it’s the gay pride colors. I have to agree that rainbow karaoke is NEVER a good idea.

Sasuke says:

hey dark_sage what group are you in? i want to download the best release of things so i want to download what you work on. also thanks for doing these. you obviously know what you’re talking about and have a firm grasp of both japanese and english, and i’m glad you’re here. i love the rainbow karaoke though, and i don’t really know why you’re so autistic about it unless all you do is look for things to bitch about because you’re a failure as an editor and have been kicked out of every group you’ve been in.

GuyFox says:

Dark_Sage says:

Bless your heart.

The road to being a Hokage sure is tough.

Ryuk says:

Eh… CR encodes are usually really good >_>

Kiraly says:

So, which group has the better encode? Commie or WhyNot? I’d rather download a faux-fansub than CR’s terrible faux-encodes.

Kiraly says:

Oh sorry, didn’t pay attention to your post. Commie it is then.

Hana says:

Despite the sarcasm posted above. I’d like to know the difference by not going thru with each scene comparing sub of groups. Bandwidth is limited so I rather read comparison through article like this with screencaps to support the claims.

NakkiNyan says:

But that is the point of the last image; you don’t need a comparison of every line because nearly every line is the same or borked.
