[Tsundere] Toaru Kagaku no Railgun – 01 (BD)

?-Tier, Fansub Review — By on August 20, 2013 6:07 pm

This post was written by Calyrica. She is not Dark_Sage.

This post is an addendum to this one.

I did this review with the other three groups’ subs in mind. Therefore, I stopped taking screenshots after seven minutes, since it clearly was not going to be of better quality than what we established in the other review.

These releases use Mazui’s subs from the airing. Not sure if they were modified at all, as many of the mistakes here were also present in Elysium’s.

OP. The alpha on the secondary with the common dark blue of the border makes this nearly impossible to read.

I’d also like to make a note about punctuation in lyrics. Usually, people do not punctuate very much during songs. However, I believe that if you do include some, you might as well go all the way. Having the exclamation point and period, but no end punctuation, really looks odd.

[Tsundere] To Aru Kagaku no Railgun - 01 [BDRip h264 1280x720 FLAC][B81B8DED].mkv_snapshot_24.20_[2013.08.20_17.57.18]

ED. The colors do change to match the screen, but belatedly. If a line isn’t finished when the screen changes, the line will stay the same color, and the next line will reflect the color change. Lazy? Yes. Also, like the OP, nearly impossible to read.

Typesetting

[Tsundere] To Aru Kagaku no Railgun - 01 [BDRip h264 1280x720 FLAC][B81B8DED].mkv_snapshot_00.02_[2013.08.20_12.55.58]

Plain, but at least they didn’t Old English it up.

[Tsundere] To Aru Kagaku no Railgun - 01 [BDRip h264 1280x720 FLAC][B81B8DED].mkv_snapshot_00.35_[2013.08.20_17.49.19]

Missing.

Also, I’d like to note the dialogue font here. I’m not a fan of slanted apostrophes, and this is why. The single-quotes around “Academy City” look terrible because of the slant.

[Tsundere] To Aru Kagaku no Railgun - 01 [BDRip h264 1280x720 FLAC][B81B8DED].mkv_snapshot_00.46_[2013.08.20_17.49.33]

Missing

[Tsundere] To Aru Kagaku no Railgun - 01 [BDRip h264 1280x720 FLAC][B81B8DED].mkv_snapshot_02.21_[2013.08.20_17.51.15]

Seriously, this is just a copy and paste.

[Tsundere] To Aru Kagaku no Railgun - 01 [BDRip h264 1280x720 FLAC][B81B8DED].mkv_snapshot_04.03_[2013.08.20_17.52.26]

What was done here was done by the company. The rest was left untouched.

Missing.

Missing.

Missing, but this is a bitch to typeset so I don’t blame them.

Script

Even if the question is rhetorical, it still demands a question mark. The “huh” is what makes this a question.

[Tsundere] To Aru Kagaku no Railgun - 01 [BDRip h264 1280x720 FLAC][B81B8DED].mkv_snapshot_01.57_[2013.08.20_17.50.49]

Generally, numbers ten and under are spelled out.

She says “san-ju hachi”. I noted this in Elysium’s release, too. 38 degrees is the correct translation.

She’s not a first grader. She’s a first year in high school, which would make her a tenth grader if you go by our system.

tl;dr: This was seven minutes worth. Don’t watch it.

(Still missing the Shiro and Baal releases, which use the R1 subs and should be more interesting than the same lazy/copy paste from Mazui a couple times over: http://www.crymore.net/2013/07/22/chihiroelysiumatsa-toaru-kagaku-no-railgun-01-bd/comment-page-1/#comment-64021 )

Calyrica says:

omfg I have to watch the first episode *again*? I practically have the damned thing memorised.

Okay.

corocoro says:

Don’t tell me you actually watched it from every group. Just running a script comparison (after shifting because bleeds) should’ve done the trick for the Mazui based ones. ;)

Squiggy says:

Those are unmodified mazui subs.
If there’s anyone willing to TL ALL signs for me, I’ll gladly do it but I’m not going to bother any further if not.

uhhhh says:

Are there any other releases besides this one where the audio/Video quality isn’t shit? This is the only good quality rip I could find.

Frank says:

Elysium has the best video quality.

corocoro says:

No, Baal has them beat on that account.

mianghuei says:

Calyrica, are you taking requests?
