Translation

Like with every crunchyedit, this will be graded on a pass/fail basis. If they manage not to add mistakes to the script, they pass. If they do add any mistakes, even one, they fail.

Karaoke.

[DameDesuYo] Gokukoku no Brynhildr - 03 (1280x720 10bit AAC) [2733E713].mkv_snapshot_22.35_[2014.06.13_21.18.08]

Ed only. It was done well, except I want them to try a little bit harder with this translation.

Main Script.

[DameDesuYo] Gokukoku no Brynhildr - 03 (1280x720 10bit AAC) [2733E713].mkv_snapshot_10.01_[2014.06.05_21.07.12]

Yes, technically “hang around” is what tsurumu means, but in this context (they’re purposely far apart from each other) I would have chosen something else like “pal around.”

[DameDesuYo] Gokukoku no Brynhildr - 03 (1280x720 10bit AAC) [2733E713].mkv_snapshot_17.12_[2014.06.05_21.35.31]

I would have preferred “if you encounter our target” since the only enemy they have to worry about is the superpowered magician named Saori.

Other Observations

[DameDesuYo] Gokukoku no Brynhildr - 03 (1280x720 10bit AAC) [2733E713].mkv_snapshot_18.29_[2014.06.05_21.40.45][DameDesuYo] Gokukoku no Brynhildr - 03 (1280x720 10bit AAC) [2733E713].mkv_snapshot_18.41_[2014.06.05_21.41.03]

Forgot honorifics in these lines.

[DameDesuYo] Gokukoku no Brynhildr - 03 (1280x720 10bit AAC) [2733E713].mkv_snapshot_19.10_[2014.06.05_21.42.24]

Timing’s off.

Final Grade: Pass

Jesus, was that so hard? I think this simucast edit is the first one I’ve ever passed. It seems that DameDesuYo has discovered the secret to being a top-tier group: take Crunchyroll scripts, don’t try to fix too much what’s not broken, clean up the timing, and add good typesetting and karaoke. However, there will be some who won’t be impressed by the fact that all they really did to the original crunchy script was add honorifics and change “witch” to “magician,” but that’s a a discussion for another day.

  1. You know, it’s funny. If a group does a really thorough edit of a CR script, they’ll get a review from D_S, but they’ll probably end up failing your TL review. If they do a really minimalistic edit, which this is, D_S will disqualify them, but they will pass your review.

What would you give a release that had been really thoroughly edited while maintaining the integrity of the translation? Feels like a group deserves special praise if they can succeed in editing a CR script well without destroying the translation.

    • Because what’s the point of reviewing what’s basically a Crunchyroll script? Maybe somewhere down the line all we have to do is review original crunchyscripts and be done with it.

  3. Thank You Kokujin-kun for giving us helpful reviews and not wasting time on porn.

Can we expect a review of Asenshi’s/Commie’s version of Mekaku City Actors any time soon?
