Oh, a decent Chihayafuru release? Karuta be praised.
Release format: MKV (199 MB, 10-bit)
Japanesiness: Extremely Japanese to the point of the betraying America. Did not TL karuta as “shitty card game”. Jam bread is not TL’d as “jelly doughnut”. Disappointed their families by subbing a Japanese anime program. (No honorifics, English-only karaoke, you know the deal.)
Karaoke.
Opening. Nothing special, but at least it matches the credits for color.
Ending. It is what it looks like. Plain, but it works okay.
Typesetting.
Yep, it varies between good, trolling, and stupid. Half the fun is guessing which one they intended each typeset to be.
Script.
I don’t think that’s how capitalization works.
“Why… do people like him exist?”
Otherwise, it reads “Why…” “Do people like him exist?” which is very different from “Why do people like him exist?”
Watchability: Quite watchable.
Overall grade: B+
Not much to say. It’s a pretty good release. Much better than Nyantaku’s.
hey Sage, whats next on your list of reviews
Saitei – Chihayafuru.
I should note that from now until I pass out, I’ll be doing reviews. So… fun times ahead tonight.
Isn’t this one of the groups that just rips from Crunchyroll/Hulu? What’s the difference between watching them and watching Crunchyroll?
Edited scripts. Karaoke. Better typesetting. Better encoding. Depending on the staff involved, I believe TLC might occur.
I don’t review straight rips (though I might make an exception for something like HorribleSubs if I have extra time).
