Script Review

Main Script.

God fucking fuck. Don’t do this to me, Mezashite. I can’t stand the show, so please don’t delay my torture any longer. The more screenshots I have to take, the longer I have to spend on the show.

Please understand that as a sentence “My passionate idol activities, Aikatsu! is about to start!” does not work. It’s just not something that should exist within the realm of human speech.

Fix this, please. It’s not right. It’s not right at all.

If “aikatsu” is the equivalent of “idol activities”, that means it’s plural. So, treat it as a plural in your subs.

Also, what do you mean by “taking auditions”? Do you mean “auditioning”? Yes, “audition” is a verb. Crazy stuff, I know.

This is all supposed to be one sentence, but it feels more like two separate ones. Also, the “is” should be italicized (the lack of accenting is a common issue throughout the release).

What the fuck is up with these subs? Honestly, the translation is fine. The TL clearly knows how to get the point across without relying on stock translations. But the transitions from line to line? They’re completely fucked.

I struggle to think how the hell any editor could let this shit slip by.

You’re gonna make me cry, guys. Stop doing this. ;_;

Yuyu, stop them! I’m really gonna say it! You’re forcing my hand!

Dammit, that’s it!

Mezashite? More like MezaSHITe!

That hurt me more than it hurt you. ;_;

Why the fuck was this the only time you decided to translate “aikatsu”?

Mezashite is the only group who bothered to sub this shitty show, so I guess the show’s one fan should be pleased the subs are okay enough. Me, I’m just happy I never have to watch another episode of this fucking show again.

  1. I am a dude who finishes shows no matter how bad. I watched all of Guilty Crown. I suffered a full tour of duty through the Avenger wars. And even I couldn’t do it. I dropped this show, it was just too terrible for words. I mean just really, REALLY awful. If this was a marketing gimmick to try to sell more of the CCG this is supposed to be based off of, then mission accomplished, because I’d be more than happy at this point to buy ALL THE CARDS so that I can throw them in my fireplace.

    I don’t see any problem with treating the word auditions as a noun though. Maybe it’s a regional thing but where I’m from the word audition is both something you go to and what you do when you get there. “taking auditions” sounds stupid but it’s the “taking” that ruins it, not the use of auditions. If they had phrased it as “going to auditions and getting gigs” it would have been fine.

    • Let me raise you. I work on Smile Precure each week. I couldn’t even watch more than the first episode of this abomination.

      Also, there’s nothing wrong with “audition” as a noun, but if you want to use a verb, why not just, you know, use “audition” as a verb? I’m pretty sure that’s D_S’s point.

    • Actually, there’s another group that’s trying to get assembled to target this show as well, but they’re currently in a struggle to find a TL/TLC so that they can really get started.

      As for this group, I believe what he was going at was that even though this group did good somewhat on the subbing procedure — in general, D_S is saying that the majority should say that this Aikatsu! anime has failure written all over it.

  2. Now I’m pretty excited to watch this – I absolutely loved AKB0048 and usually if D_S thinks it’s shit, that means it’s a go for me. Downloading this right now.

      • Episode 1 down, I’m on board. Didn’t really blow my mind, but I liked it.

        Subs were pretty much as good as I expected after reading this, but Mezashite couldn’t quite grasp the concept of shifting the subs up when Japanese text was on the bottom. Other than that, good subs.

        • It’s a really cute and fun show to watch. Mezashite get’s better with their typesetting later on. The example you mentioned isn’t a problem so much in later episodes.

  3. Ughh… what the hell is with this bullshit? I shouldn’t have even given this show one episode. Watching this made me want to puke.

    • I thought about doing a “Let’s Watch” for this show but then I realized it would solely consist of me making death cries or quietly sobbing, so I scrapped the idea.
