[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_01.40_[2013.06.30_17.00.55]

OP: Good, though it’s a pet peeve of mine whenever I see people using “ha” instead of “wa” in the lyrics for the particle は. If the point of doing these stupid karaokes is to allow neckbeards to pick up the mike and sing along whenever a song comes along, then the romanji lyrics should direct us hairy Western barbarians on how to pronounce the damn runes, not sticking slavishly to the common, non-particle pronunciations of certain kana.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_23.05_[2013.06.30_00.19.19]

It’s obvious that Mazui translated this particular ED, which Wikipedia translates as “No, Tom Has Learned Sexual Arousal for His Little Sister” (seriously?), by ear since they had no access to the official lyrics at the time, and as a result you get this mixed bag which ANE didn’t bother to clean up for their BD release. For example, here it’s not “mitasanai” it’s “nigasanai”, and it’s not 捜索 (sousaku, search) it’s 創作 (literary creation).

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_24.00_[2013.06.30_00.11.56]

So juuman (100,000) equals a thousand dollars, eh? Well, now that may be the case thanks to Abenomics, but back when this was released way back in December of 2010, the yen was pretty strong against the dollar. So that actually works up to 1208 dollars in 2010 money. I remembered the exchange rate was in such a flux back then that some groups decided to stop converting yen to dollars in their overly localized subs.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_18.33_[2013.06.29_23.49.35]

Insert song. Mostly good, but Kyousuke took the words right out of my mouth considering this English line.

Main Script.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_02.42_[2013.06.29_22.04.16]

Technically correct, but the line needs to be written better, as in “What fucking celebration are you talking about?” better. Japaneseses may be fine with just hearing just the word “oiwai”, but here the Western audience needs more details. Unfortunately, in order to do that, you’d have to read the parts of the novel they left out in this episode. And double unfortunately, you have to deal with Baka-Tsuki and their derpy-ass translation of the chapter in question (mfw they translated Ayase’s “Onii-san” as “Onii-chan”). But I guess they got the basic idea across that Ayase wanted to give her something to “celebrate” her good standings in a recent track tournament, so the line above should be, “But I want to give her a congratulatory gift, so I’m making an exception this time.”

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_02.50_[2013.06.29_22.05.18]

More like “We’ve also started talking a little bit about anime.”  The line as it is now make it seem like Kirino is the one who was unwilling to talk about anime while clearly it’s the other way around.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_03.00_[2013.06.29_22.06.01]

I would have went with “But it hasn’t worked out too well,” as long as we’re talking about an anime noob trying to talk about useless toys figurines with a disgusting neckbeard who just happens to be a popular female, 8th-grade model/athlete/honor student.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_04.27_[2013.06.29_22.09.47]

“You made me buy those earrings for you on Christmas Eve, didn’t you?”

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_04.40_[2013.06.29_22.10.31]

Heh. Other subbers and professional subtitlers would have gone with “goth girl” or “emo chick” whenever Kirino calls Kuroneko “kuroi no,” but good ole Mazui always keeps the lit-tards (as opposed to “libtards”) in mind when they sub their shows.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_07.42_[2013.06.29_23.00.06]

The term “doushite kureyou” means the speaker is wondering what to do (usually what to do with the party that offended the speaker). You’ll usually hear that term in period dramas.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_08.06_[2013.06.29_23.09.21]

No, 上位互換 (jouigokan) means forward compatibility, not backward (and no, don’t believe jisho.org, they’re being stupid), and she’s saying that what they are looking for must be “forwardly compatible” with what Kyousuke has in mind for a good present for Kirino. The line doesn’t really work if they have her saying that Kyousuke’s ideal must be backwardly compatible with the present. Honestly, either way the line does look pretty retarded upon first glance, but since Kuroneko is not only an Eighth Grader, she’s also a computer geek, so the line actually fits her.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_10.10_[2013.06.29_23.21.56]

“Look closely! This is a serious, corporate-sponsored contest!”

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_10.43_[2013.06.29_23.28.22]

You mean “Thanatos” right? And even if the “official” romanization has her name as “Tanatos,” I’d immediately change that obvious engrish to “Thanatos”.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_11.59_[2013.06.29_23.35.32]

They didn’t typeset the “Nin!” above Saori’s little drawing ;_;

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_13.28_[2013.06.29_23.39.04]

Another pet peeve of mine, whenever translators hear “gaki” they feel the need to shoehorn the word “brat” into the line, whether or not it actually meshes with the rest of the words. Look, it’s all right to use the term “kiddie anime,” it’s not gonna hurt you.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_13.47_[2013.06.29_23.40.09]

“That van is probably heading toward the Shuto Expressway by now.”

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_14.40_[2013.06.29_23.41.47]

Didn’t care to translate what these creepy neckbeards (i.e. my negroes) are saying.

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_14.58_[2013.06.29_23.42.11]

But they translate the same fucking thing Kirino says here ┐( ̄ー ̄)┌

[ANE] Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai - Ep10 [BDRip 720p x264 Vorbis].mkv_snapshot_17.58_[2013.06.29_23.48.10]

You can clearly hear some random neckbeards saying “Kawaii!” in this part, yet it’s not subbed.

As you all know, Mazui only TSes the “important” signs.

Final Grade: B- (Mazui), C (ANE)

I counted about 4 real mistakes in the main script while the rest of the issues I consider nitpicks. However, ANE will be getting a gentlmen’s C for not fixing the ED with the official lyrics. I don’t really fault TLers who have to transcribe lyrics by ear on the fly for hearing the wrong words and such because, truthfully, even an average Japanese person would have trouble getting all the lyrics right. But if the official lyrics are out, that’s a different story.  I felt the overall script flowed great, although the script does have some headscratchers here and there. So, by all means not a perfect release, but it’ll do.

Unless I’m misunderstanding something and when doing karaoke one should bring along a friend named Mike for the purpose of lifting him whilst singing along to anime beats… I think you might’ve meant “mic”

  2. I heard that Kira Fansubs has done a BD batch for the first season with the v2 scripts of Mazui. Can you do a comparison between that and ANE’s (if it’s okay)?

I hope you can find it in your large, open heart (that actually sounds really bad; this is why no writing at 2:30 for me) to forgive them their impudently overlocalized line.

The alt code for ™ is 0153 and I have been using it a lot as of late because I found out.

As a dumb person, I have no idea where the Shuto expressway is. “I wonder where the car is” might be a bit much, but well damn I lost my train of thought. Something about using ‘highway’ instead of ‘Shuto expressway.’ And the point of the lines in this review being to be (ugh) very accurate. I should be watching anime right now.

Don’t worry, it didn’t actually count as a mistake to me, I was just busting their balls :p

Okay, fixed. But I know that can’t be the only mistake in my post, lol
