Translation

Like I said before, the trick to making a passable Crunchy rip is… don’t make so many changes that inserts mistakes into the script. If you make even ONE mistake, you get an automatic fail — no exceptions. I agree with Quarkboy (around 85:07) when he says what really makes him want to guzzle a few quarts of antifreeze is when Crunchyrippers add mistakes to a script that wasn’t there originally. I’ve had that happen to me too, and frankly it made me want wring a few necks.

Karaoke.

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_03.06_[2013.07.11_20.02.11]

OP. They do good work.

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_22.55_[2013.07.11_19.58.58]

ED. More yeoman’s work.

Main Script.

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_00.27_[2013.07.11_20.02.50]

I thought they were going to come up with something less generic than “unpopular girl.” I am disappoint.

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_04.09_[2013.07.11_20.08.57]

Crunchy’s original line was, “There’s plenty of time to make some guy friends,” which was wrong (“I still have time to make friends and meet guys.”) but Commie took this up a notch and added some heavy sexual nuance where there wasn’t before. Mazeltov.

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_09.13_[2013.07.11_20.11.52]

So those East Germans over at Commie decided the fansub audience is too stupid to get what the word Gestaltzerfall means and decided to translate it for us. Fan-fucking-tastic.

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_09.42_[2013.07.11_20.40.56]

Like I said before, she’s actually saying she’s hot enough to be in a brochure for a cabaret club or other sex-industry places. So this makes it five up and five down for this line.

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_11.49_[2013.07.11_19.37.28]

This is good (Crunchy’s original line was “You just shouldn’t. Go away.”)

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_13.30_[2013.07.11_19.43.32]

This, not so good. Tomoko said nothing about her brother being handsome in this line. Crunchy’s original translation was “A fine man like you, who’s been a regular forward on the soccer team since his second year, sure has some different ideas,” and apparently Commie took the term “fine man” and ran wild with it.

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_14.59_[2013.07.11_19.45.12]

Crunchy fucked up on the term chara-o (tacky skirt chasers) by writing “Shut up, you pansies and bimbos,” and Commie actually made this line worse, to the point that guys aren’t even talked about anymore.

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_17.26_[2013.07.11_19.53.26]

Commie took Crunchy’s lead and decided to paper over the completely untranslatable “home security” joke too.

[Commie] Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaete mo Omaera ga Warui! - 01 [D2AA2AB7].mkv_snapshot_19.27_[2013.07.11_19.54.55]

No. Tomoko was lurching back because she saw something she didn’t want to see (kids from her school who might see her eating alone at their local WackDonald’s) and said “Geh!” in the original Japanese. Crunchy had “Ack!” which was the appropriate response. Commie had… this.

Final Grade: FAIL

Almost all the mistakes are directly because of the original Crunchy script, and I would have probably given them a “Barely Passed” because of that. However, because they decided to scriptwrite that last line way too far, they deserve a fail.
