[Anime-Koi] Coppelion – 02

This post was written by kokujin-kun. He is not Dark_Sage.

Sorry, but because of all the other fansubban and IRL crap I have to do, this is literally the only anime fansub I was able to squeeze in since the last review.

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_03.06_[2013.11.02_21.55.09]

OP. I thought they had a pretty good ear for this song, except for this part where they missed a mama.

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_22.42_[2013.11.02_22.33.43]

ED. Mostly good, but setsuna here doesn’t mean what they think it means.

Main Script.

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_00.36_[2013.11.02_21.43.57]

Apparently the “proper name” is Japan Ground Self-Defense Force.

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_00.47_[2013.11.02_21.44.42]

They had so many options for the word kawaii, yet they chose the standard translation.

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_00.59_[2013.11.02_21.46.34]

They weren’t even holding her. Actually she says doite, meaning “move aside.”

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_01.36_[2013.11.02_21.48.09]

He actually mentions his daughter’s name (Miku) here, plus the “can’t live with myself” part is represents a little bit of the dreaded Script Writing™ on their part.

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_03.13_[2013.11.02_21.56.00]

Failed to typeset this sign here for some reason, plus my face when the title’s kanji is actually the girl’s name.

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_03.50_[2013.11.02_22.03.27]

Here’s a good example of how Japanese can be stupid sometimes. He actually uses the present tense form of the verb (yattekuru) in this line to describe something that doesn’t happen any more (a few lines later he adds that the truck stopped coming the previous week). So Anime-Koi, using their best judgement, decided to render this line as a past tense statement.

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_08.06_[2013.11.02_22.09.39]

Didn’t add the “by the window” detail.

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_12.07_[2013.11.02_22.19.10]

Lesser groups would just go with “Yukiko-obasan.”

Other Observations

[Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_23.40_[2013.11.02_22.36.50][Anime-Koi] Coppelion - 02 [h264-720p][08A06DCC].mkv_snapshot_23.40_[2013.11.02_22.36.56]

They limited their shenanigans to alpha timing.

Final Grade: A

The only error I would necessarily count against them is the missing typesetting, and their script didn’t piss me off, so that’s also a plus. Now back to fansubban.

  1. What do you have in mind for your next review? Some good contenders include: Little Busters!: Refrain, Kyousou Giga, Outbreak Company, Tokyo Ravens, and Yozakura Quartet.

  2. This show’s story is pretty bad, but to be fair, the script looked like it was pretty well written.
    “Yattekuru” is quite acceptable in TV shows for added drama and it happens a lot ^^;

    It can be argued that
    1) the speaker didn’t want the listener to know that the truck stopped coming yet.
    2) It’s a context play of 「やってくる(から大丈夫だった)」 or 「やってくる(予定だった)」 etc and the girl cut him off.

You should cover your ass with something like “A supply truck would come by every week” so it would work both ways though lol

    • Yeah, I think they did do that for dramatic effect, just adding to the forced drama that was present throughout that episode, lol.

Also, it makes me shudder thinking about how much worse it is to translate Chinese, which doesn’t actually have any past tense verbs, apparently.

Anime-Koi’s construction doesn’t necessarily imply that the delivery schedule changed to zero, but only that it’s no longer once a week. I wouldn’t ding them without seeing how the following lines were rendered.

It’s too bad the studio’s release delay wasn’t used to overhaul the story; it’s a beautifully animated show.

I thought you didn’t comment on translations?

  4. Yeah, my only problem with this release is that my computer isn’t good enough to handle the subs in the OP and ED so I have to turn them off for that lol
