Review

In case the different format hasn’t already tipped you off, this release was far too bad to contain with a normal fansub review.

Put simply, the subs are completely fucked. Any line with more than three words in it is guaranteed to be wrong. As such, I’m leaving out quite a bit of the standard commentary, since I imagine you’ll catch most of this shit yourself.

[shi0n] Saikin Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga. - 02 (MX 1280x720 x264 AAC)[A5716F69].mkv_snapshot_00.18_[2014.01.13_14.34.47] [shi0n] Saikin Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga. - 02 (MX 1280x720 x264 AAC)[A5716F69].mkv_snapshot_00.22_[2014.01.13_14.35.05]

Too bad this is the first time she’s ever had it.

[shi0n] Saikin Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga. - 02 (MX 1280x720 x264 AAC)[A5716F69].mkv_snapshot_00.27_[2014.01.13_14.35.52]

Plot twists! And people said this show was just about a girl with bladder control issues.

[shi0n] Saikin Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga. - 02 (MX 1280x720 x264 AAC)[A5716F69].mkv_snapshot_00.57_[2014.01.13_14.36.52] [shi0n] Saikin Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga. - 02 (MX 1280x720 x264 AAC)[A5716F69].mkv_snapshot_00.58_[2014.01.13_14.36.58]

I’m pretty sure that if a “time’s loophole” did exist, and wasn’t just a nonsensical guesslation, it wouldn’t have a self.

[shi0n] Saikin Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga. - 02 (MX 1280x720 x264 AAC)[A5716F69].mkv_snapshot_01.45_[2014.01.13_14.37.50]

shi0n: proving that even the lobotomized have a place in the fansub scene.

The whole OP is gibberish.

While watching this release, the only way to stay sane is to throw out everything you know about how sentences work.

How many of it? It’s cruel to leave us hanging, shi0n.

Good thing this release was translated or I wouldn’t have a clue what’s going on.

If you want to have some fun, read this line out loud as shi0n’s punctuation dictates.

Somehow? But how? Shi0n, why are you hiding these secrets from us?!

It’s too late for regrets, shi0n. For you… and for me. :(

An advanced clip maneuver, eh, shi0n? Bold move.

I think I need something to drink. Things are getting spicy here.

Keep in mind that shi0n is also a VN translator. Hope you weren’t looking forward to a good Yosuga no Sora translation anytime soon.

If you were hoping for the ED to be any less gibberish than the OP, you’re too innocent for this world.

I’m done.

shi0n, I gotta be straight with you: your subs are so far gone that no editor human could make them decent. The only people that could possibly enjoy this release are those who don’t really understand English, and all you’re doing is making them as bad at the language as you are.

I suggest you seriously re-evaluate why you fansub, because I can’t imagine failure this consistent is what you were going for.

  1. I feel sorry for shi0n, especially if he is genuinely trying. If I were in his place, i certainly would not be able take this review with equanimity. I know you get quite a few laughs for this style of writing. But I found the words you used to be too harsh for someone doing something he likes of his own free will. Don’t know if it’s only I who feel this way.

      • Think of it as you will. Just that he is only one person, doing all the stuff. From what I see, he does not seem proficient in english. While one may debate why he is doing it in the first place, I do not think that he is not putting effort; however the quality of his subs. D_S is doing his duty by reviewing the subs for what they are but I just wanted to say that the same could be done without so much of, um, hype or sensationalism (like saying no editor could edit his shit, etc). Just my opinion, feel free to criticise it, of course.

You don’t say. He even said on his site once that the “editors” he had recruited had even worse English than him, so they went poof. Kinda funny if you ask me.

I refuse to believe that’s true. That’s practically impossible, going by this release.

            • Those editors’ loopholes showed shion their true self. He totally wasn’t sure at anything at all. So he didn’t to take any editors.

        • If shi0n really is Arashi, that’s not hype. I tried editing an Arashi script before and am not proud of how it turned out (leaving an editor to translate lines is a bad idea). An editor can only function when they understand what a line is supposed to mean. And they can only function effectively when they don’t have to completely rewrite every single line. Scripts like this one are so far gone that there is no editor out there that is capable of doing a good job on it.

As for my writing style, it’s intentionally and obviously over-the-top. When I tell people to kill themselves for forgetting ending punctuation in a sentence, for example, I am not really telling them to die. I had thought that was rather obvious.

    • If you feel sorry for shi0n, what about the ESL viewer who watches it and thinks “What’s with all these attention?” is a good example of English? How much does shi0n’s pride weigh against that viewer’s understanding of English?

I don’t think there’s any shame in being honest about something, and I don’t believe constructive criticism needs to be syrupy-sweet. Not everybody deserves a gold star.

      • I totally see what you mean D_S. It is your duty to review these subs and let people know how ‘good’ they are. The only thing I feel is that stuff like “These subs are a disease that can only be cured by death” and “No human can edit this…” does not come under constructive criticism.

P.S. To be honest, I did have some hearty laughs :) Later on, just felt a bit bad that I laughed on him.

        • LOL Don’t be, the fact that I’m doing this for fun while being fluent in Japanese, I don’t really intend to sharpen my English skills. I clearly can understand the Japanese, but when you’re in that mode, it’s just hard for me to switch to the English mode right away. That’s what I’ve been trying to practice. Since the VN Translation doesn’t seem to have more voice in them, I decided to fansub again. And, my Kanji reading skills are up to N2 now, I’d be taking my JLPT N1 next month, so there’s nothing wrong with most of the translations, except that, in translating anime, the scripts aren’t presented to you in a text way, you can’t analyze them right away, unlike in the VN, you can see the Kanji, you can see the sentence structure in Japanese, you can get the idea of the sentence right away.

            • Okay, so that maybe wrong, not everyone’s perfect, oh remember, N2, not yet N1. To think that, they don’t put slang words in the test, I still need to study them by myself. Thanks by the way for pointing that out, I appreciate it.

            • Yep, I just finished chatting with one of my RL friends who’s good in English, and knows a little bit of Japanese. We have the same nationality, he said that my release just lack more “Understandable-English” as he quote, though he’ll try to make some time and edit for me. As for now, I’m gonna look for more editors, there are tons of them out there. I can learn more grammar skills in my University next semester. I’d make sure to get an A+ there, maybe after that, I’ll be able to release by myself.

  2. And I thought that Wakakushi-Nameless’ Witch Craft Works subs would be the worst of the season. Why would someone try to subtitle a show in a language they don’t understand?

  3. I was sure that I’ve attached every font… I guess, it’s time to change the font since it always fails me. Also, I’m not arashi, go to hadena’s website, you’ll my comments there and his. I can also agree that, the ED is not well translated. Plus, I specialize more in Visual Novels, that’s why it always sucks. Anyways, thanks for the review D_S, I really appreciate your time and effort. Next time, I’ll do much better.

  4. shi0nmaku, I sincerely recommend you translate to your native language if you don’t care about improving your English skills. The words you are using don’t mean what you think they mean, and it will cause both you and anyone who reads your subs to be worse at both Japanese and English if you keep this up.
