I am gonna *try* to be thorough with these Tokyo ESP reviews, but slitting my wrists would be less self-harming than paying attention to this godawful shitshow.

Visual Review

Opening. FFF matched the text colors to the colored lines. Depending on the screen, this was either a good decision, or a bad one (as the above screen points displays). I don’t disagree with their general approach, but they really should have ensured people could read the lines when the colors got heavy on the bottom of the screen.

Rating: Okay.

Ending. The German/whatever in the beginning wasn’t subbed. What they did decide to sub was suitable, yet unimpressive.

Rating: Okay+.

Presumably they put their B-team on the typesetting.

Still, I’m pretty easy to sate when it comes to typesetting. The end result was sufficient, even though I doubt the effort put into it was.

Script Review

Main Script.

[FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_04.08_[2014.09.06_23.08.06]

“stinking heat”? There are scratches in gas chambers that are better written than this. Seriously, have you guys ever talked to a woman that you haven’t paid for?

[FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_08.54_[2014.09.06_23.13.48]

What is this? the new mankind? If you wanna make it a pronoun or something, go with a term like “New Humanity”.

[FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_09.08_[2014.09.06_23.14.08]

Quotation marks. She’s quoting ED Girl here.

[FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_09.47_[2014.09.06_23.14.59]

Why is your English such a bad?

[FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_09.53_[2014.09.06_23.15.16]

A Monty Python reference? How timely and relevant to the otaku audience!

Do some more funnies, FFF. You’re great at it.

[FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_09.56_[2014.09.06_23.16.03] [FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_09.58_[2014.09.06_23.16.09]

I guess it doesn’t matter much if you have an ESL editor when all you’re doing is working off a Crunchyroll script. They can only fuck up so much.

[FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_13.01_[2014.09.06_23.20.25] [FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_13.05_[2014.09.06_23.20.34] [FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_13.15_[2014.09.06_23.20.48]

“They may be the only heroes we have.” Subtle difference, but this line is less Engrish.

[FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_17.00_[2014.09.06_23.25.08] [FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_17.05_[2014.09.06_23.25.16] [FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_17.09_[2014.09.06_23.25.02]

“Even so…”

At the hardsubs point, the script got pretty damn good.

[FFF] Tokyo ESP - 08 [4ABD7E1F].mkv_snapshot_11.49_[2014.09.10_20.31.41]

I copy/pasted it here, cuz even though you’re not gonna read it, it still deserves a spotlight.

Lin, have you reflected on your actions?
If you punch another customer, I’ll tear out your toenails and make you eat them!

>I’m so very sorry!
>I’ll be sure to let them rape me quietly next time,
>so would you be so good as to unchain me?

You’re not sorry at all, are you?

>Oh, can you tell?

Listen here, Lin.
I’m paying good money to your parents for this.
Don’t make more trouble than you’re worth.

>Well, my chastity is on the line here,

And how much do you think that chastity of yours is worth?
I could make more money by chopping you up and selling your organs, you know.
But I’m a nice guy.{m’lady}
That’s why I’m letting you sell your body instead.
Your life’s worth about as much to me as one of those ants.
I can crush you any time I want.

Hm? What?

>Please die.

If you take anything away from this review, it should be that Tokyo ESP is awful and not worth your time at all.

Solaristics says:

I dropped the show so I wasn’t able to witness the Yoda speaking. Very sad, I am.

PP says:

So, I’m good if I never watched Star Wars? I d-don’t need to end myself, d-do I? ;_;

And what the fuck is that dialogue at the end.

Dark_Sage says:

No, you’re a lucky one.

PP says:

I knew I had the potential in me.

Now to master that ninja-run.

Dark_Sage says:

Some guy hung his waitress/slave up cuz she defended herself from sexual assault. Then the subs happen.

PP says:

That’s pretty funny.

Is the {m’lady} part actually there or did you add that?
Dark_Sage says:

That was theirs. Sometimes fansubber comments are worth including.

Anonymous says:

That’s pretty hot.

PP says:

They went from bad to assholes, can’t spoil people like that. (¬‿¬)

Dark_Sage says:

You know what, fuck this show. I’m done. Dropped.

Xythar says:

I don’t blame you.

Anonymous says:

Good on ya.

elenrod says:

That’s… wow.

Not Sharknado-wow, but still.

Nevreen says:

>Pull the other one!
>Monty Python reference

Dark_Sage says: is where I got it from. If it’s just British bullshit, it’s just as bad.

Kamica says:

Dark_Sage’s rating for Ga-Rei is 9/10.

Based on your previous rating, you would think that Segawa is a capable writer. Where do you think he went wrong with Tokyo ESP?

Dark_Sage says:

He should have just re-written Kannazuki no Miko again, the fucking hack. I hope he has brain cancer or something, because nothing else explains how he could go from Ga-Rei to this hunk of garbage. God, fuck Segawa.

moka-chan says:

he listened to the anime/manga editors. possible reason why most anime are garbage and unoriginal.

Anonymous says:

The visual grade should’ve been a C+, because the typesetting in this release was very poor.

FalseDawn says:

What’s your issue with the school line? The response is applicable to the question.

Dark_Sage says:

“I don’t.” isn’t the name of a school. It’s a response, but it’s shit writing.

FalseDawn says:

>What school *do* you go to?
>I don’t [go to school].

Seems valid to me. I’ve heard it a lot on TV and in movies too as a stock response to that type of question.

Hanzetsu says:

Bleh (?. Me recuerdas?
