Karaoke.

Opening. Pretty decent, although not terribly impressive.

Ending. It’s perfect.

Typesetting.

Nice period. I wish your mother had hers on the day you were conceived.

Script Quality

Karaoke.

“My very own recipe is a fluffy magic”? What the fuck does that even mean?

The karaoke was all right otherwise, but I preferred Ruri’s OP/ED scripts more.

Main Script.

The common expression ’round these parts is “dig in” rather than “tuck in”, but that’s not really my problem here. The issue is the second screen, which looks and sounds like shit. Try something less terrible, like

“it’s not like you ever tire of this.”

Agh. I fucking hate this line. This is a jumble of tenses patched together by an idiot who has no business working with scripts. Remove “being” from this line.

You generally don’t compliment something by pointing out some boring trait. If she says “sweet and sour” then make it into something that sounds more… interesting.

“They give off a very nice scent and have a wonderful blend of flavors.”

You don’t start out a polite conversation like this one with something that doesn’t invite a response. This should be

“So, it’s your turn to deliver the bread today.” <- A question mark would also be acceptable.

“bread” is singular. This should be “I’m glad she enjoys it.”

If it’s too sudden, there’s no point in requesting assistance. Drop the “too”.

Why is there a semicolon here? What the fuck are you doing, Hiryuu?

There’s no need for “all the time” here. Fuck, the difference between this script and Ruri’s is night and day. This isn’t even an isolated incident with Hiryuu’s subs for this show. I watched the first four episodes of their release and noticed similar errors in the English.

Firebird, you need to stop hiring idiots.

The point of this line is to show how impressed the bread bitches are with the fox girl’s cooking. So fucking reflect that.

“Looks like she’s earned her place as one of the castle’s cooks.”

Why “I’ve brought” instead of just “I brought”? If you can’t tell the difference between the two, you shouldn’t be fucking editing.

No matter how you look at it, this editor is unfamiliar with the English language.

You don’t use,

commas to,

link lines, you illiterate morons.

What is “after all” doing there? Abort it from your script like the doctor should have done to your editor.

And again with,

this shitty line splitting. Really, Hiryuu. What the fucking fuck? This happens with relative frequency throughout the episode.

with. would you like to help with apprehending the thief?

How do you fuck up a line so much? She’s not saying that it’s impossible to ask Rick to catch the thief. She’s saying it’s impossible to expect Rick to catch the thief. There is a huge fucking difference.

“B-But Rick couldn’t possibly catch a thief.”

The soldier’s telling Lelouch to move the fuck away; not leave the room.

“Move it!”

This is some of the worst line continuation I’ve ever seen.

This is a great backhanded compliment for a line that shouldn’t be a backhanded compliment. Way to go, Hiryuu.

“Can I trust that Rona was quite helpful?” {He’s asking Rick if Rona helped out during the mission.}

More evidence that no one at Hiryuu knows what a comma is.

Timing Review

Incoming. When “Timing Critique” is added as a category, you’ll know this part is done.

Results.

Watchability: Watchable.

Timing Grade:

Visual grade: B+

Script grade: D-

Overall grade (timing results not factored in): D+

It’s interesting how Hiryuu can put out good subs and then turn around and release shit like this. Just goes to show you can’t trust group names to determine quality.

  1. I’ve noticed spotty editing throughout many episodes, but IIRC this one had some of the weirdest phrases, line splitting, and flat-out mistakes. Most episodes weren’t good, but they weren’t this bad either.

Staff pages may or may not be accurate or really complete, but maybe it’s worth noting that the editor for Shiny Bread also did Brave10 last season. This episode, and many of them, were also delayed quite a bit.

Maybe Hiryuu loses motivation for some of the non-boob shows.

    • This show has cleavage and miniskirts coming out of the woodwork. I’m inclined to say it just comes down to shitty editing.

    • The delays on Brave10 were caused by other things, though. Mainly a translator not translating. Bread is delayed because of awful, awful timezones all across the board.

  2. >would you like to help with apprehending the thief?
would you like help learning this structure?

Seriously though, the “with” is unnecessarily wordy. At the very least it’s implied, and I’d say the line reads much better without the “with”.

    • “Would you like to help apprehend the thief?”

Cuts like 8 letters out of the line and it reads better as a result.

  3. This is odd, I always thought Hiryuu was the go-to group for ecchi shows and stuff. This D-tier rating surprises me.

    • Hiryuu can be good or they can be shit. This is certainly not the first D-tier they’ve received on this site but hopefully it will be their last.
