Opening. It exists, which is about the best I can say for this.

Ending. Yeah, it ends with this screenshot because Underwater doesn’t have anyone on staff capable of translating this song.

Typesetting.

Way to fuck this up. The text gets in the way of the sign (which was kindly translated for us by the animation company).

I will, but only because you’re the only group subbing this show.

Other.

I was dazed by this encode.

She’s desperately reaching for some good English, but I don’t think she’s going to find any anytime soon soon.

Amazing ending translation here. Just fantastic.

Main Script.

There’s no need for a comma here.

“Sorry I’m late.” as in “Sorry {that} I’m late.” No place for a comma, as you can see.

This isn’t a one-off line like “Hey, buddy.” This is her sister. As in, she calls her “Sis” all the time. Lrn2/proper noun/ kthx.

This happens often in the release.

Thinking “play level” might be some kind of obscure mahjong term, I looked it up on google. Turns out Underwater just sucks at English.

“She’s at about my skill level.”

Either “next semester” or “this coming semester” would work here. “this next semester” doesn’t make any sense, though.

“Even if there were a party for us,”

Use “were” instead of “was” because this is contrary to fact. There was no party awaiting them when they came back.

Someone fucked up here and put “wash” instead of “watch” (“take care of” would be a better phrase to use though). I don’t know how it’s possible to fuck that up, but someone did.

At 14:15 Nodoka says “I gave you my tie a while back.” confirming that she actually gave Arata her tie.

“We won’t be together if we participate in individual tournaments.”

The “all” is unnecessary and fucks with the phrasing of the line.

Choose if you’re going to capitalize it or not. I’d lean toward capitalizing it, but it’s your choice. Just choose a standard and stick with it.

It’s not a very good release, but you don’t have a choice in subs if you want to watch the show.

  1. I actually opened up this episode on CR just to make sure she wasn’t actually saying “wash”, but I guess not. And yeah, it was “wash” in their script as well, which mystifies me. I’d say “look after” would probably be best.

    • Sorry, correction, she does say to wash it (or rather, that she’ll leave the washing to her, but whatever)

洗濯よろしくな、Arata (dunno the right kanji for her name).

      This show is weird, man.

      • lol, Japan. All right, then.

It’s still wrong because even if she did say that, the translation doesn’t make sense. The goal is to get to the meaning and when you go for a 1:1 translation, you get gibberish like that line, so I’m gonna stand by what I said.

  2. Is Nyarlko reviews coming out tonight or tomorrow? Or are you going to finish the shows that only have one review needed left?

    Reply
    • Well, Nyarlko actually only has one review left for it too. Ahodomo stopped subbing after episode 2, so only Hatsuyuki is left. I imagine I’ll get on the review tonight.

  3. I dunno what happened, but CR subs for this show are pretty crappy. Lots of stupid misinterpretations and obvious logic errors… clearly not the same translator as the first season.

The “Mahjong Club” sign is part of the original video, btw.

Nodoka? I think you mean Akado =S
