This is what the geniuses at Crunchy call the “front hall”:
Are these guys translating the episode just from the audio?
I only heard one shimai.
>Anime about dolls
>Puppet maker
Wat?
Missed part about the “puppet maker” spending his whole life making those, uh, puppets.
I was very afraid they were going to use that as Suiseiseki’s verbal tic. Lucky for me they didn’t.
Other fansub groups had variations of “You’re being too loud” or some other stupidity. At least there are some people at Crunchy who know what natural language sounds like.
Here’s the “bag” Hina’s owner was talking about:
It’s like the translator’s fucking blind or something.
Line’s awkward at best, wrong at worst. And they went through all that explanation beforehand about how the winner will “hatch” into Alice.
No. Banchou means a leader of a group of juvenile delinquents.
“And I believe my master is Micchan.”
For fucks sake, they even have the name of Kanaria’s owner listed on Crunchy’s site. How does someone fail this hard and still get paid?
紙の本 (kami no hon or “dead-tree books”) not 神の本
No she didn’t say… you know what, fuck it.
Other Observations
Timing sucks, typesetting sucks, font’s okayish.
Final Grade: C
You don’t even have to know what “kawaii” and “baka” mean to spot some of the mistakes in these subs. With all the other groups putting out subs faster and more accurately than these ones, there’s no reason to get this release except to “support yer anime industry.”
All that’s left is Evetaku I assume?
Yep, on it.
Looks like another quality CR release.
Indeed, the crunchy subscribers are sure getting their money’s worth :D
>Are these guys translating the episode just from the audio?
More like just from the script, this has happened a few times with CR releases.
Well, you’re right, except there’s at least one mistake (God/paper) where I swear they were just going by ear instead of reading from a script.
I hate to be that guy but I’m confused about this part of your review.
“I only heard one shimai.”
To begin with, Shinku clearly said 「ローゼンメイデンのドールは全部で七人。七人の姉妹」, “Rozen Maiden no doll wa zenbu de shichi-nin. Shichi-nin no shimai”. So she clearly said 7 sisters.
On top of that, shimai in itself is plural. You don’t call your own single sister using shimai. You’d either use imouto or onee-san. So I don’t understand why you said that you heard it was one shimai. It doesn’t make any sense. Moreover, anyone who watches Rozen Maiden should know that there are a total of 7 dolls.
I just thought I’d point this out because it distract me from your otherwise on-point review of this subbing job.
I was talking about the number of instances where she said the word shimai. As you can see from the screen shots, Crunchyroll had her say “seven sisters” twice. As you and I heard, Shinku only said shichinin no shimai once.
