Things Dark_Sage Paid For

This post was written by Dark_Sage. He is Dark_Sage.

A post dedicated to my poor spending habits. (Image intensive.)

moe

Disclaimation: I ain’t no fortunate son. Just a 24-year-old salaryman without many actual expenses. Also, if you expected anything from this post other than me jerking off to myself, you’re on the wrong site.

R1

I don’t have a full room shot for R1, so you’re just gonna have to deal with bits and pieces of it. Consider this the overflow room.

1-1-DS

This is a mostly unsorted pile of manga. Obviously it’s not that great to store them like this, but I don’t have enough shelf space for these yet.

1-2-DS

Temp shelf shot. Not off to the greatest start, but it’ll get better later. R2 > R1, after all.

1-3-DS

1-4-DS 1-5-DS 1-6-DS 1-7-DS 1-8-DS

Shelves. This stuff is mostly alphabetical, but there are quite a few volumes missing from here that are in assorted piles.

1-9-DS

Piles like this one. Not sure it comes across well just how many books are on the table, but the answer is over 9000. Yeah, gotta build more fucking shelves.

R2

2-1-DS

Room shot. Also the only shot you’ll see my favorite wallscroll in. Treasure it.

2-2-DS

The monitor image didn’t come across that great, but this is where the sexy, sagey magic happens. I also write Crymore posts on the thing.

2-3-DS

The stack is just a bunch of various anime mags, LNs, and artbooks. Leviathan-tan didn’t come across that great, but that’s just something I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life.

2-4-DS

The artbooks that managed to fit inside the shelf. Udon makes good stuff. Too bad udon as a food is so bad.

2-5-DS 2-6-DS

Besides the artbooks, this shelf has LNs and some random volumes of manga toward the bottom.

2-7-DS 2-8-DS 2-9-DS 2-10-DS 2-11-DS 2-12-DS 2-13-DS 2-14-DS 2-15-DS 2-16-DS

So this is all alphabetical, sorted, and generally good. These shots cover manga #-De. If you don’t know what that means, I’m going to assume you’re smart enough to puzzle it out. If you’re not smart enough to puzzle it out, try harder. This is a test you must pass.

2-17-DS 2-18-DS

This covers up to some of Fruits Basket, but more importantly, you get to see some of my sexy wallscrolls.

2-19-DS

And some figs on top of a sugoi SD television. This is where I pretend I use the TV to play oldschool games instead of watching my BDs. DAE Playstation 64?

2-20-DS

This is where I’d read my manga if I were literate. Since I’m not, I have turned it into a shrine dedicated to the greatest anime of all time.

2-21-DS

Normally the microwave is unencumbered by manga, but I had to take this shot since where I usually have these volumes (the couch) doesn’t look as cool. Also, you can see my tube of unused wallscrolls. I’ll put them up one of these days.

2-22-DS

And another stack of manga. See Future Diary? Best manga of all time. Try and say differently. I will fucking fight you with internet bullets.

R3

3-1-DS

Room shot.

3-2-DS 3-3-DS

Some of my LEs. Also, all of them.

3-4-DS

Everything to the left of my waifu is an anime shirt. Turn that cringe into jealousy; I look sexy as all hell in these things.

3-5-DS

Some games. I’ve got more, but I left them with my brothers cuz they actually have enough time to play this shit.

3-6-DS

The only fig I really care about here is the Asuka one, so I made sure to get a bad shot because art.

3-7-DS

Ignore the western stuff and just appreciate the stepping.

3-8-DS

Casa de la Seiji: Where every night is the best night ever.

3-9-DS 3-10-DS 3-11-DS 3-12-DS 3-13-DS

And that takes care of most of the anime DVDs. It’s all alphabetical if you follow the right pattern.

3-14-DS

Xbox 360 is the only console a western otaku should own, because Tales of Vesperia is the only good game Japan has ever made.

3-15-DS

I don’t even like this wallscroll, but I felt obligated to include a shot of my lolfang-tan fig.

3-16-DS 3-17-DS

BDs and some DVDs I couldn’t fit in the regular shelves.

3-18-DS 3-19-DS

Figs.

3-20-DS

If you remember this post, I finally found a purpose for the boxsets: they’re what the DVDs/figs are propped up on.

And… that’s it (well, that’s all that I have displayed at least). Have some lists.

Manga List

Note that for these lists I’m just gonna put the series and not which volumes I have/which are complete. This way we can pretend my collection is perfect.

Literally the Best Anime Ever I Was Being Serious

RWBY

(We will return to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow. Not tonight though, since I have work in 4 hours. Gotta pay for this shit somehow.)

  1. That’s just amazingly insane.
Someone may say it’s waste of money, but if I have money for that – I’ll definitely waste them on simillar shit.

  2. Sooo… Do you only buy good stuff or actually just anything that comes up on your radar? And are the investments proportional to how good a franchise is?

    Reply
    • Well, I won’t buy terrible things (I tend to avoid low-rated manga on MAL if the art style/plot doesn’t catch my eye), but I mostly go for price over quality at this point for manga. I get the manga used because I want to eventually read it and I don’t see this shit as an investment in anything other than my own entertainment.

For anime, I have to be more discerning because it’s not as cheap, so I usually go for series I know I’ll love first. Prices aren’t that great right now though, so I don’t anticipate adding much to my BD collection for a while. NISA series I always buy at MSRP if there’s an LE and I like it, because they’ll sell out otherwise, and Aniplex is the same, except I factor in the price (sorry Fate/Zero but I can’t drop $900 on you). For the other companies(‘ standard editions), I’ll wait till there are significant discounts before picking them up. $25 and under is my price point.

              • Funi seems to be dipping their toes into the pool that is “premium editions”. I’m interested to see how this pans out (especially with the title they’re initially testing this out on). Maybe they’ll do something cool for their inevitable AoT release if this works out though. In closing: Aniplex might not be the only one offering uber high priced box sets anymore.

                • Yeah, noticed that when I was throwing Fate Zero in my cart. The reason they’re doing this for Kamisama Kiss is that for the season it aired (Fall 2012), it blew their minds how many hits they were getting on Hulu. Soup and I talked to the Funimation rep and she said it was easily their best performing title of that season (I think it’s worth noting that they absolutely refuse to give any numbers as to how many hits they receive after the whole NicoNico failure of theirs when they only got two hundred hits an episode). So they’re doing this to see if those hundreds of views will translate into sales.

Luckily for Funi, I actually liked the series. A lot. So I’ll line their pockets on this one, I guess. Everything else I can wait till it hits their S.A.V.E. line.

    • by that comment i only understand that you have never had any real passion in your life.
people like him who collect stuff and other things are to be apreciated. Because he does what he likes and enjoys himselff, now you might ask ”But what the hell is he going to do with all those shit figurens and all, they have no purpose no meaning, it’s just a waste of money and space”. Just so you know they do have a purpose, they just make the persone who bought them feels good and gives them a sense of enjoyment. for persons like you who doesn’t understand this should just keep his opinions for himself, and is also very rude to laugh about someone else passion and hobby!

  3. dang how could you leave Trails and Ys:Oath sealed like that?! They deserve to be played. Though Trails is understandable if you’re waiting for the 2nd chapter to be released first

    • Also so jealous of your LE collection of games and the sheer number of games you have I want to play and own. Future Dairy forever incomplete I feel for you as a owner of them myself

      Reply
    • Not a big fan of Ys games, and when I played Trails on my emulator, I hated it. I’m not a big fan of action-RPGs, but I’ll buy the LEs if the prices are right.

  4. I remember you posting about how awful Time and Eternity is on CAG. Didn’t stop you from getting the collector’s edition, I see.

    • Shit’s actually pretty pricey in general. But I’ll pick up a volume when it’s only a buck or two. Ninja Love was worth it just for this post.

  5. Do you ever have nightmares where your figurines come to life, murder you, and turn your site into a 50 shades of grey fansite?

Yeah, I have no idea where that came from either….

  6. Dat Miku wallscroll was my Wallpaper on my old PC. <3
But I guess I'll never understand for what purpose people buy figurines and then leave them in their boxing.

  7. Have you ever watched/read/played even the half of these thing?
Not my money, not my problem, but there is a far bigger chance for you to read something digital on your tablet/phone or whatever you use, instead of searching it on 1000 shelves

    • Not the manga, but for games/anime, yeah. Generally with anime I’ll have already seen it before I buy it, and with games I try to put in time with them. I end up dropping most of the games, but on the whole I pay to play for those things. Or at least I’ll pay for things I’ve played and enjoyed.

As for manga, for series I don’t have complete copies of, I’ll look to online resources, but if I have all the volumes, having a book in my hands is always gonna be a better experience for me. But with manga, at this point, it’s mostly just for collecting purposes. I don’t have much free time to get reading done right now.

  8. At first I was going to ask why not a review, but after seeing that insane collection it makes up for one. From what my poor eyesight can see in the pictures, you only have North American releases of manga/games/BDs/DVDs, which explains how you can have that much stuff without going bankrupt over shipping charges. If you buy to collect and not to consume (it’s clear with the unopened games), how come you don’t import some of the stuff you really like to more directly support the creators?

    Reply
    • For the games, if they’re on a system I can emulate or hack, I’ll tend to just go that route. So don’t take sealed games as an indication I haven’t played them.

I go for North American releases because they’re cheaper and I can understand what the hell’s going on if/when I decide to get into them. Doesn’t do much good for me to have Japanese releases just because they’re Japanese. Ultimately, I’d prefer to spend my limited resources on North American releases over Japanese ones because it’s easier to build a collection. Give me some cash and I’d be glad to add Japanese titles, though.

    Nice collection, bro.

  10. Hey, want some help organizing some of that shit? My OCD is seriously twitching looking at it! When spring rolls around, we could hang for a day and put shit in its place. It would also give me an excuse to FINALLY RETURN NEPTUNIA TO YOU.

Well, this seems to be rather excessive, excessive stuff tends to be a dealbreaker.

It’s also not the fact that there IS otaku stuff, or maybe not even the quantity, but that there SEEMS to be nothing but otaku stuff. :D

But look who’s talking, I just don’t have the money to gear up to this level, I guess.

  11. I think I lost it when I saw that RWBY on your chair…I’m glad there are people like you in this world so that I know what things I don’t have to do with my money :(

    >See Future Diary? Best manga of all time. Try and say differently. I will fucking fight you with internet bullets.

Dude, that is horrible :( The premise was good, but then it turned into another teenager emoangstromance story. More battle Royale and less Twilight please. I know it’s the internet and you shouldn’t care what random people tell you, but this post makes me so sad :(

    I will crymore

    • Yeah, the RWBY thing was just me fucking around (the copy pictured is a Christmas gift for one of my little bros), but Future Diary is actually one of my favorites. And the only thing about Battle Royale I enjoyed was that it started my favorite genre. Mirai Nikki’s just crazy balls-to-wall action so I’m not sure how it could have disappointed if you liked how it started.

Onani Master Kurosawa is my actual number 1, for the all-important internet record.

      • I watched the anime and saw that last ova, so I can’t say I read the manga, but I hear it was pretty much the same thing.

Honestly though, up to episode 4 it was excellent: brutal, over the top action, dat blind power ranger(seriously the best part of the show), and overall a lot of stuff going on everywhere (the cop’s pov, the bomber’s pov, main chara’s pov, etc).
But after that it almost completely turned into your standard anime following always our main character. They were pitched against 1 bad guy every time until they got to the end. The badass bomber who didn’t give a shit about blowing up schools suddenly falls in love, while Yuki is stuck in Shinji mode the entire series.
The finale which everyone was losing their shit for was cool and it had a twist, but it came far too late to the story; almost any teenager with a brain would have talked about it and solved things by then like uh people do.

Also I’m amazed how they were able to find not one but two professional seiyuus who could sound so bad and pitched them together for main characters. It wouldn’t be that bad if they kept with the many povs, but watching these two squeal every minute every episode of the latter half of the series was torture.

What I’m trying to get at is that if they’d kept this more focused on other characters through the entire series this could have been something really good, but when they decided to follow mainstream stuff and put Yuki in every episode and show us his troubles to even get a bunch of friends was painful. Honestly, the premise was good and featured some really goof characters, but they killed them off too quickly, they were just filler.

        Reply
        • Uhh yeah, of course every other character was just filler; the series is the Yuki-Yuno show. Yuki was whiny at first, sure, but then he was all “love ya too Yuno-chan” and badass after the halfway mark. Don’t see any problems on that front.

I was thoroughly entertained, and it takes an exceptional series to keep its foot on the pedal that long for me. You can whine about whatever you want related to it, but I’m not beholden to anyone’s enjoyment but my own, so I can’t say I much care.

            • Not even TTGL had the kind of pacing Mirai Nikki did. If you wanna list some titles you think ran like Future Diary did, I wouldn’t mind adding them to my viewing/reading list.

              Reply
              • What are you talking about? Mirai Nikki played all its cards in the beginning act; TTGL was just getting started by episode 8. *That* was good pacing.
If you’re into teenage romance, then it won’t be long till you find something else, it’s anime after all :)

    • To explain the TVs, I use the SD for when I want to watch DVDs, and I use the Sony Puraystationuru Display (which you can only really see in the wider shot of my room) for watching BDs in my bed. It works out pretty well.

My gaming setup is with my siblings at their place right now, and I’m rocking a UN40EH5300 for that.

  12. Dear Dark_SageSanta,

I’ve been an active lurker of Crymore this year. If you will give me that godly Insane BRS, I plan to continue doing so again next year.

Thank you so much (From the bottom of my upside-down hear)

PS. Allow me a year to ask for what I will wish for 2014. There could be a Kanbaru or Mayoi Nendoriod on Santa’s shelf by then.

  15. I’m amazed at that collection! I’ve always wanted to start collecting but personally don’t have the money or the room for it. I probably couldn’t see myself having a collection that large but definitely wouldn’t mind having a few posters and Blu-rays from my favourite series.

  16. I love it when someone has pride in something they own. I have had a couple of times where I was over someone’s house and I found something that should have been in way better condition then it was and it just urked me. I saw a leather star trek jacket thrown on the floor of a hoarders room where garbage, mice, rabbits cage shreds etc covered it.i happened to be trying to help the messy room..this person forgot about owning it for years and it was ok just dirty.i ended up hanging it Up in the closet they never used.
UGG. Anyway Bravo! So clean and well taken care of. Not one visible food plate, crumb, speck of dirt or any damage to anything that I can see. I totally understand the tv in the bedroom aswell.Ive had similar instances in the past. You reminded me of when I was a kid and while being the youngest of three, I would always organized our VHS tapes and DVD collections aswell as make a record of the titles in my notebook. Something about having the order made me feel tidy and organized. I think if I never met 4 people, I probably would be living my life like this.
